"Kieffer Moore scored more goals in 31 minutes against us than he had in his previous 39 League appearances.

Tom Eaves scored more goals in 24 minutes against us than he had in his previous 32 League appearances.

Ben Whiteman scored as many goals in 11 minutes against us as he had in his previous 30 League appearances.
"

It could only happen to us....

That is absolutely shocking!

Our last hat trick was over 5 years ago, I can't think of one more recent?
Mohsni v Barnet in April 2012.
Must be one of the longest spells in our history without a hat trick for us?

Never been the most prolific scorers, and even when we've got a few it's been shared across a few players

Agree with this. Today was ****ing awful and I have been a Brown outer in the past but when you look at some of the other clubs in this division (Doncaster admittedly not one of them) what exactly are our expectations this year? We overachieved massively last year, and we're battling a horrendous injury crisis (which admittedly is partly down to Brown signing crocks).

Brown is not perfect. There are questions to be asked. But overall he's done a decent job and I back him to keep us up.

I don't think we overachieved at all last year....expectations are fluid in sport especially....look at our start last year then look at our finish.....big failure last season. Only to reach the playoffs mind

Some of the stuff we played from October to March was the best I have seen from a Southend side in my 25 years of watching. We were hammering teams 3-0, 4-1 a fair bit. I don't think we could realistically expect to replicate that this year, especially as our budget last year was probably in the bottom half of the division, as it probably is now.

...and you' d bring in..er...who? And how do you know your proposed Messiah will do the job?

All I'm asking for is a manager who can prepare a squad pre season...clearly brown can't
A manager who will not spunk the budget on previous 'names' who have many miles on the clock and liable to break down
A manager who isn't a complete @#$#
That's coming from current players, former players and opposing managers
Again we could do better than Phil brown

You are joking? Not sure how or why you feel we didn't over achieve last season? At the start of last season we were one of the favourites to be relegated! Brown had done a decent job for us and should no Way be considered for the sack especially given we had won our last three games.

Some of those points, particularly the first two, are more than fair.

However, I would also argue that you are unlikely to find a manager who has his teams work so hard, or are so organised.
I would also point to the excellent team spirit that seems to have been fostered over the last couple of years. It's pretty clear that anyone who threatens that is out on their ear. If you have a team that works for each other, you'll do OK.
We have a manager that has improved our league position every year in the four years he has been in charge. That's impressive. It won't go on forever, but to sack him on a whim when things aren't going your way (relatively speaking, we've won three in a row before today) is irresponsible.

Browns style of football is out of touch with the modern game and given that he now has spent the biggest budget in Southend existence I'm sorry that Id like a little more from a supposed top class manager.

You just make it up as you go along. Thanks mrsblue

Did you see the Wimbledon and Blackpool games....very very lucky brown himself admitted this.

Lucky yes, but still wins with a makeshift back line. Still unbeaten at home, and Blackpool were in the top 6 when we played them.

Once we get a settled defence, it will give the rest of the team confidence and we will climb the table. Trouble is, nobody seems to know when we will get a settled defence.:sad:

The budget argument doesn't take into account the rise in TV money across the divisions and what other clubs have been spending. I wouldn't disagree this is probably the most expensive Southend side in history. The trouble is, other clubs in our division are matching it and indeed exceeding it.

That's one of my issues....settled defence???
We only have Anton because his hamstring is literally useless, look at the way he walks let alone runs at the moment.
Hendrie????? Wtf I can say with complete honesty I never rated him during his 1st spell and his form thus far is poop.
Coker....bad luck no blame obviously
Keiranan...known knee issue literally no pre season preparation....brown says yeah he's for me...shambolic tbh
Turner....600 years old barely played for two years....shock horror hamstring went straight away....terrible signing
Demetriou.....good at times....awful at others, standard league one I suppose.
So onto our best back four, I reckon
Demetriou Anton Keirnan Coker, be interesting to see how many times they play together.

As i pointed out in the pre match thread i think it was earlier in the week , this is SUFC and out of form teams seem to find form against us.Been like that for years.Good to see all the whingers back and enjoying themselves.:hilarious:

We could also do a lot worse than PB, so please, give us some names of these brillaint managers that can't wait to come to the mighty Roots Hall?

Granted he isn't perfect, but then what manager is (especially one that will come to us!!).

We played some of the best football I've seen at this club last season, due the fact that PB signed experienced previous Championship players.

Yes, some signings haven't worked out, but name me a manager in the world that doesn't make mistakes with signings.

You mention the players hate Brown; pretty sure some are here because of him.

I'm pro-PB and have been since the start.

As others have said, we are in a stronger position as a club than we were and have improved year on year. Added to this, there is stability throughout the club and in the youth set-up. We aren't hiring and firing left right and centre and the coaches in the youth teams are being allowed to work with the players at their own pace. This is starting to reap rewards.

I think PB wanted to keep Anton here for his experience in developing a structured defence and maybe bring a couple of players through over the next two years, but I do concede that we haven't done great in the transfer market defensively. Ironically an area most would think PB would be strong in. We've let some good players go, as well. Some forced and some not so and have recruited possibly more poorly than we would like.

I would like to see a plan there. The chopping and changing, some enforced through injury, has left us looking vulnerable when sides come at us. It's no coincidence that we seem to concede batches of goals, close together, when the oppo tail is up.

That said, we are where we are and I do believe we will be fine. Especially if we stop giving away silly free-kicks and use Row Z a bit more, when we are under pressure.

I have to say I missed Clarky's take on things on the radio, yesterday. Being a former defender, he always talks a lot of sense on positional play and the like. The club could do a lot worse than to get him on the payroll and smartish!

This is the 2nd such statement I've seen you make criticising White, what do you have against a player who was our clear player of the month last month?
OUR clear......I don't know your name(Theresa perhaps?)but you are renowned on this site for being hopelessly misguided, nor
do I know who this other person might be.
Ive absolutely nothing against John White. He's a really nice bloke, who does his utmost whenever and wherever he is asked to play and he was outstanding against Blackburn(in August) but if you think he's an answer to our defensive problems, you're asking the wrong questions.

"Hopelessly misguided"????!!!! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

John White was the stand out player for August, winning both the club's and the Trust's Player of the Month awards - you clearly have a "down" on him for some reason - I would suggest that the majority of supporters don't agree this season.
