Good! Hes our star centre back !! Just had an off day can happen to the best players in the world! Will have a 3 match suspension now so will come back refreshed and ready to go! Will do him the world of good.

it will do me the world of good - not having to watch that donkey

Strange match. I actually thought we were the better team apart from the 11 minutes when they freakishly scored 4 goals. Won most 50/50s. Won plenty in the air. Ref was useless though, kept getting things wrong and then trying to even it out with more bad decisions. Elvis was very good; what a gem. Great delivery into the box. We were much better when we kept the ball on the deck. To be honest, over the years I have seen Southend play much worse and still win.

The last games perhaps

Phil Brown quote
To go a goal up and lose 4 -1 stinks of something wrong in the changing room, and I've got to get to the bottom of it.

Have a look in the mirror you Orange mug. Please go. Thanks x x x x

Another Brown out moaner.......

stop moaning.... You only seem to appear when we lose.

Not at all. And if your happy with today's performance and the performance overall this season then you are very easily pleased/subdued.

Brown is not the best manager that this club can attract and there are other managers out there that would bring a freshness to our play. Browns style of football is out of touch with the modern game and given that he now has spent the biggest budget in Southend existence I'm sorry that Id like a little more from a supposed top class manager.

Having watched every league game on iFollow so far it is pretty obvious after 12 games that we are about where we should be, lower mid table. Not nearly good enough to be serious promotion challengers and more likely to be in danger of sliding into the relegation zone. Weaknesses in defence, most notably carrying a player, Ferdinand who is not worth his place and has become a liability. Lack of craft or intelligence in midfield, apart from Wordsworth and occasionally Leonard and up front a lack of goals only to be expected from a lineup, who despite being 'names' have an unimpressive combined career ratio of goals to games. Recruitment of veterans and/or crocks will never build long term success and has backfired badly this season. We have some promising youngsters who hopefully will make the grade given time but let's be realistic, survival is the best we can hope for this season.

Like you, I've watched every league game this season on ifollow (except last week's home game to B'pool when I was at RH).However, my conclusions are rather different to yours.
First of all,I think it's far too early to predict where we'll finish up at the end of the season. We're currently 14th-remember last season at this stage we were in the bottom 3- and still managed to finish 1 point away from a play off place.

While I would agree that there would certainly appear to be weaknesses in defence-I don't think we'll see White and AF paired at CB again this season, for example.Nor do I agree that AF is "not worth his place and has become a liability".Granted his lack of pace is there for all to see- as it was for the penalty he gave away today.I still think we're lucky to have a player of his obvious ability at the club.PB said after the game there was "something rotten in the dressing room."Hopefully he'll root out the cause of the problem asap,as he did last season at this stage.

Been trying to hone up a bit on this and I'm none the wiser, in truth 'Rob'.

There doesn't seem to be a definitive list of offence/ban.

I thought all straight reds were 3 games, but it might not be the case for dissent.

I turned BBC Essex off, so has there been any update since the final whistle from them?

Always used to be 2 games for that sort of offence. Don't think it's changed.

Hat-trick update:

Kieffer Moore scored more goals in 31 minutes against us than he had in his previous 39 League appearances.

Tom Eaves scored more goals in 24 minutes against us than he had in his previous 32 League appearances.

Once might be regarded as misfortune, twice is definitely carelessness.

Ben Whiteman scored as many goals in 11 minutes against us as he had in his previous 30 League appearances.

Three times is downright negligent !

I don't watch Southend that often but I have noticed that when they resort to "hoofing" the ball up field and either Ranger or Fortune are the intended recipients that they don't fight to win the header against the defender and it's as if they're scared to head the ball. Perhaps scared of dementia in later life. So why hoof the ball up to them? Just watch the next game and you'll see what I mean.

tickets and coach booked for Wigan.....gulp. Going to be a long day

Astonishing thing is that when Wordsworth put us 1 up we were only 1 point off the playoffs in the live table. Even after today's embarrassment we are still only 4 points adrift.

Always used to be 2 games for that sort of offence. Don't think it's changed.

Thanks 'Mick'.

When I googled it earlier, the first source was some 'Sun' article that I wasn't sure was trustworthy, but they mentioned 2 games in there, as well.

Having moved away from the area in the mid 90s it has been a long time since I have been able to watch the team I started supporting in 1960 but thanks to iFollow now I can. Maybe an enforced diet of watching La Liga, Serie A and even the Premier league instead have spoiled it for me, but to say that I was shocked by the poor standard of football seen so far is an understatement, and I don't just mean Southend. I know memory can play tricks and the past often seems rosier than it really was, but on the evidence of what I have seen so far, league one football is at an all time low generally and this Southend side is shockingly inept in virtually every respect and certainly suffers by comparison with the teams of Ernie Shepherd, Arthur Rowley and Dave Smith.

STOP THE LONG BALL! It's cheap and scrappy and not the football expected of a league one team, we can use the wings but keep it on the floor, play the football. Spread the defence create the gaps and find the space, it seems we are so incapable of basic football. With no kypriano or anton next week against a big scoring Wigan should be enjoyable.

Well, at least that's going to have screwed up opposition scouts' theories to "target Ferdinand" for the next few games! From what we heard on the radio, that was clearly what Doncaster were doing.

Why is Woody not taking corners any more? He is by far our best deliverer of dead balls. Far too many problems today, an inability to get a corner past the 1st man being a major one. How long till Kightly is back?

Defence is going to be interesting, have to hope Kyprianou's injury is not as serious as it seems or that Kiernan might be closer to being back, as next week is definitely a big game - if not then looks like Lenny back with White in the centre of defence, in which case Timlin needs to go back into midfield and Hendrie - a proper defender - back in at left back.

Wonder if anyone is going to ask Brown about Ferdinand at the Trust Q&A on Monday.......?

Look if he was a really 'top class manager' he wouldn't be managing Southend United in League 1. However he will prove a tough act to follow for anyone as we have improved every season (both on and off the pitch) since he has been here and all things considered imo there is no reason to suggest (yet) that this season will be any different. Potentially massive players for us like Kightly, Coker, Kieran and Turner should all be back in the next couple of months and when they are fit we will be more than okay. If you think about it the entire back four that started today would probably not be starting a game at the moment if all our players were available. Perhaps it's no wonder we are struggling to keep clean sheets.

I hope not. Certainly don't think a player's underperformance should/needs to be discussed in that sort of forum. Think it would be disrespectful to kick a man when he is down and lacks any class on our part. I thought it was a shame that PB felt (due to some 'supporters' recent vitriol) he needed to speak out via the Echo on Friday about his importance to the team. Look he is clearly struggling at the moment. We know it, he knows it and despite what he says PB knows it. But I'm sure he has still got a major contribution to make this season and until either Kiernan or Turner is playing alongside him I don't think you can judge him properly. He can't concentrate on his game 100% while he is nursing Kip, Elvis et al through games too.

Dire.... but at least we found a good pub, it seems that lately we are enjoying the day out rather than the footy, something needs to change, we are clueless going forward, and fragile at the back!

Wont give ratings, and it is pointless blaming a incompetent ref.

" and it is pointless blaming a incompetent ref. "

Isn't it strange - no manager says that the ref was bias toward their team.
