Demise of the NoTW

What interested me about the death of the whistleblower story was that it was the main story on Spanish/Catalan media and all over the net a full two hours before Sky and the BBC decided to run with it.Dunno about you but I'd expect to find out about British news stories on British media first before they're picked up on by European mass media.

Incidentally, Cameron has been backed in from 100/1 to 8/1 in our 'next cabinet member to leave' market.

Of course, there's more than a whiff of publicity seeking about it (I've just seen a press release from our PR department claiming that "People up and down the land are queueing out of the door of our shops to back the PM to walk" but still.

Now down to 6/1

I'd expect the family to find out first.

Even more interesting, seeing that the whistleblower was in bed with the NY Times is the fact that they didn't report on it until hours later

I'm only going on Twitter here, but as the story was breaking some sources - e.g. The Guardian - were 'confirming' it whilst the BBC were more along the lines of 'reports coming in that'. I'm guessing they were trying to be a little more circumspect and waiting for confirmation before running with it.

Personally, no. However, now I've seen a tweet for our PR dept saying Cameron is 3/1 not to be in charge at the next election (a different market to the one alluded to above)

Well that i could agree with. I don't think he's done a great job since coming to office a) an amazing amount of U-turns on policies b) the NHS saga which will no doubt continue c) his handling of this scandal and d) the worst is yet to come in terms of the economy etc with the full impact of the cuts on people not really hitting people until later this year/next year.

Is it me or is Rupert Murdoch coming across poorly here? He appears to be carrying himself as if above the whole proceedings. His son looks embarrassed by him.

Murdoch attacked, can't make out what it is though from the sketchy reports I'm hearing. Custard Pie or Paint?

Turns out that there was acid in the foam and Murdocks face has been eaten away. He will be scared for life and plastic surgery will probably kill him. But hey, lets make a joke of it, its a funny ha ha after all.

**STOP PRESS** A Labour supporting journalist from the Daily Mirror has been found to be involved in the death of a govenment supported expert for the Middle East. That is all.

By contrast, Murdoch’s popular papers have tended mainly to follow public opinion once voters’ minds are made up. So they respond to and then amplify what people already think.

:hilarious:

Politicans (yes even Labour ones) know (or hopefully knew) that The Sun, NOTW etc, had to be courted for them to have any chance of getting into power. They were more powerful than any media source, and that includes the Beeb. Hence Kinnock's loss in 1992 with the infamous "can the last one out, please turn off the lights" front page the day before the General Election.

What Phillips forgets is that NI, Murdoch and Brookes, authorised immoral things in the hunt for "news" and surely any politician of any party can see that restricting the influence of one media source on the running of this country is a good thing.
