Demise of the NoTW

By contrast, Murdoch’s popular papers have tended mainly to follow public opinion once voters’ minds are made up. So they respond to and then amplify what people already think.

:hilarious:

Mad Dog Phillips isn't the only journo out there saying much the same. Can't find a link, but I read an article in the Indy on Tuesday making a similar point.

Funnily enough, I never see comments slating The Mirror for telling people what to think. Maybe it's because it's a lefty paper. But poor dumb people to the right of centre are only able to think what The Daily Mail and The Sun tell them. Hmm.

Brooks seemed to know a lot more about the Sun (a tight ship) and The Observer than she knew about NotW.:nope:

There's obviously a lot of floating voters, and if The Sun gets behind labour, labour will win the next election, thus labour policy moves to centre-right itself to appeal to these voters.

To accuse the last Labour government of being left wing is an insult to Keir Hardie.

This isn't about the usual political lines? That's even more ridiculous than your typical ramblings. This is ALL about politics.

No it's not , as its about a private corporation having had influence over BOTH spectrum's . A private corporation which is the personification of the very business ethics and models your support Rusty . As as you like to say man up and accept it . Labour are being hypocritical and trying to score points . However at present their not in charge and didn't employ someone from this corporation during an investigation ignored by some senior police officers who may or may not have been influenced by the said corporation.

Or they don;t have the same budget or circulation ;) (plus its easier to ignore the mad lefties their easier to spot)

Very fairy point on the budget(s) of course. But the stuff spouted by the likes of Paul (forgotten his name) and Kevin Maguire is as partisan and agenda driven as what you'd read in the right wing papers. Maybe if more people bought The Mirror...

I saw a comment by Earl Spencer stating that he knew for a fact that most other newspaper groups have at one time or another been involved or implicated in such practices.

If I were a journo enjoying him/herself over the NI business I'd want to be whiter than white if the **** starts flying in my direction. For the record I have Spencer as being right and this'll run & run, I just hope it catches that ineffable **** Piers Morgan up in it.

Labour may not be in charge right now, but surely you're not naive enough to think that nobody from the previous Blair/Brown administrations will be found to have dirt on their hands? I don't believe that anybody thinks that the phone tapping is desirable or even acceptable, but is it really such a big deal? And would it be pursued so zealously by the left if there wasn't political capital to be made?

To be fair to Piers Morgan, the front page that he ran that got him the sack (soliders abusing Iraqi prisoners), was actually proved right about a year later, but the whole story got swept under the carpet...

A fair point I'd say, and now we have the likes of Kinnock coming out and saying the press should be bound by the same rules of "impartiality" as the BBC. Personally I found that quite scary as currently by the admission of their own chiefs the BBC are far from impartial. We must have a free press in this country and Parliament must take a step back and accept this.

That was on Newsnight last night. He was specifically referring to the tabloid press.

Thats what my posts have been saying their both implecitie sadly for the Tories they have had the worst of it due to poor judgement on Camerons part for employing a man possibly who gave the authorisation for the worst excess of the phone hacking .

The other points being missed here are the possible illegal conduction of mobile phone companies , NI's lying and possible corruption of certain parts of the met , none of which are poltically motivated per sa (you could attach them ).

The opotunisum of Labour is nothing new , however the entire operation anad manipulation that has gone on in Westminster is very much in teh open... thats bad for everyone and especially unaccounatble business like NI who have been leading in some cases these practices .

In fact, contrary to the original supposition, I've found people on the right to be a lot more intolerant and antagonistic when people have different views to theirs. Those on the left tend to be irritating, moaning, whingy types but will at least acknowledge a viewpoint different to theirs as a cause for debate.
