Dale farm evictions "may breach human rights"

They don't want to live in houses though, I'm pretty sure they've stated that at points. Also, they're travellers, that means they move on after a set amount of time, they've had 10 years to **** off, it's too long and they're a stain on this county and hardly help with the stereotypes that are perceived.

Oh i wasn't accusing GHG of tht I just wondered why people could condone it as it was a romanticist notion of Rom doing it but teh anti-social behaviour of pikies (which are still wrong ) are perceived as worse ?

Nothing romantic about what I said previously and I certainly wasn't condoning murder. My point, which I obviously didn't put over quite as well as I thought was that gypsies are mostly approachable and those that settle intergrate into the community. There are five gypsy families living where I do and none of them cause any trouble at all. The ones who live opposite me are decent people, my daughter spends more time round there than she does at home playing with their kids. They work six days a week then go to church on Sunday. If they do actually take some time for themselves then its normally showing off their presevation trucks or washing their work vehicles.

Irish Travellers don't intergrate,they run their vehicles on red diesel or kerosine or target haulage companies and punch the fuel tanks. They plead poverty but live in £30,000 plus caravans or site park homes on illegal sites which cost in excess of £50,000. How do I know this? Well I live in a park home and paid £48,000 for it. We sold our house, paid off the morgage and put some of the pay out into a park home and the rest in the bank. As a matter of course, we dip the tanks of any vehicle pulled in for No Insurance or seized from a traveller site. Nearly all of them come up red or green.

They put multi vehicles onto one policy under one named driver but allow anyone to drive the vehicle regardless. If they get nicked, they turn up mob handed making threats and claim damage so as to get a price reduction. We take photos and list any damage but still get enormous amounts of grief over imaginary damage caused.

They send the least offensive member of the gang to price a job then once its done in their own shabby way they rip of the victim with the biggest most offensive member of the gang. Seen it, almost been it, a tried and tested way of making easy money off pensioners who are gullable to a cheap deal.

The bottom line is Irish Travellers do not combine their so-called traditions with the community they have invaded where as English Gypsies make the effort on the whole. Like it or not that is the facts and nothing is going to change them.

You obviously know a lot more about living in close proximity with Gypsies/ Travellers than I do.One or two of your posts on this subject,in this particular thread, have been genuinely informative.You'll no doubt be aware,as you've intimated,(as I also am)that the Nazis weren't too keen on Gypsies, either.(Incidentally,you were the first person to link the Nazi treatment of Gypsies with the Dale Farm situation,on this thread).
Also FYI,"ethnic cleansing" has much more recent history than the Nazis(unfortunately).

They do however own the land they're living on at Dale Farm.IMO, Basildon Council should offer to provide "culturally appropriate accommodation" for the travellers before evictions are carried out, rather than just Council houses and flats,as they have done so far.

Totally agree on the Irish travellers (mind you im aware of many a well to do people around the country who use red , for the chelsea tractor , and when you have the cash you can get it cleaned very very well ;)) . Though many of the technigues described there are old hat and used by many a type to further their own gains shall we say . Rom have as a whole been more considerate (if even having to have learnt to be over centuries of persecution mind ) to where they settle.

Next door would be impossible, as there are town houses on either side of us.However,just opposite there's a "plazoleta"(or small square)which originally housed a stable when we first moved in.These days it's used by mothers and their children during the day and (sometimes) by teenagers at the weekend.I'm not sure the local council would grant planning permission for change of use of the land though.:smile:

Good post. Their latest scam is to approach people with a top of the range Laptop, show them they have lots in the van or car, and sell them one in it's case for about a third of the price. They tell them to get it home quickly so no one gets in trouble on both sides.
When they open the case up at home, they find they have just bought a case full weight to make it feel like a Laptop is inside.

In all honesty is it relevant as to whether they're gypsies, pikeys, tinkers, or anybody else? They've built illegally and have been told that the structures must come down.

Whilst I'm sure the left leaning members of society will be up in arms about this I'll ask them. How would they feel if a multi millionaire built a house illegally? Would they be insisting it be pulled down, or would he have Vanessa Redgrave as a house guest telling the world how terrible it is that he's going to be evicted?
