Dale farm evictions "may breach human rights"

Seems like at least one of the travellers wishes to leave Dale Farm but is being prevented by the supporters, from the BBC.....

Tony Ball, leader of Basildon Council, called on the demonstrators to allow people to leave freely.
He said: "It is ironic that a traveller who wants to leave Dale Farm now appears to have been effectively imprisoned by those who claim to be defending the residents.
"All we can do is to urge those who say they support the residents of Dale Farm to take down this scaffolding now and allow those travellers who wish to do so to leave the site without hindrance."

. Apparently just reached Dale Farm without any trouble.

Woohoo, why not give them some sort of award. All that way with no trouble.

I might build a massive extension on my house and see if the human rights brigade will support me when the council want to knock it down.
If the travellers are allowed to stay you are basically allowing anyone to build anything they want on any land they might own.

1) If the locals were so anti-travellers you could of expected some trouble, which was my point, that there wasn't.

2) Actually I think you should be able to within reason (ie doesn't obscure light to neighbours, listed buildings etc). Interestingly there is a brand new government group including our esteemed local Brentwood MP Mr Pickles who are currently investigating relaxing planning laws to boost the economy allowing building on Green Belt.

So taking it too extremes I could buy a field in the middle of nowhere and build a block of flats. Wouldnt hurt anyone else.

The point is, these people have broken the law. If they are allowed to get away with it a dangerous precedent would have been set. The council should have dealt with this years ago when it was a quarter of the size it is now.

Your point about building on green belt is certainly feasible. I think its quite well known that if the flood of immigrants continues, the country would need two cities the size of Birmingham within the next 20 years.

At the start of the recession, if the Government had had a plan in place to build a whole new town in the middle of the country it would have helped with the overcrowding in heavily populated areas and put a lot of people to work. Losing green belt is not ideal but if the population continues to expand what other options are there?

Possibly because they have seen the value of their property plummet.
I haven't seen any people protesting on behalf of these people. Dont they have any human rights?

Thats my whole point Steveo, the locals haven't resorted to violence even though they are the aggrieved. A ex work mate of mine lives in Oak Road Crays Hill which leads directly to Dale Farm and he has had to put up with all the grief that comes with it for 10 years. He also knows Len Gridlet whos land and home backs onto the site. He is close to breaking point and when I say breaking point I mean going mad, losing his mind and doing something that everyone will regret. If that site isn't torn down then Len will be the biggest victim here and almost certainly will be pushed over the edge.

I don't see why you would expect trouble from the locals - the locals are expecting the law to be upheld - not breaking it themselves.

If there were only a couple of hundred people seems not even all the people from Dale Farm bothered to march.

Is he the guy who was on the TV the other day, I saw him set fire to something that the gypsies had stuck in his land. He then called the police to say what he had done and they arrested him. I feel so so sorry for him

Thats the guy. I recovered his car a couple of months back and he is proper on the edge. He has endured so much that I am frankly amazed he hasn't gone completely insane by now. A few years ago he was on some Channel 5 programme where some ex-army major sorted out disputes between neighbours. After Len and a group of the travellers met up with each other they agreed to work out their differences. When the cameras stopped rolling the trouble started again, fly tipping, running a raw sewage pipe onto his land, idle threats and a general **** you attitude towards him. If that man ever gets hold of a gun then he will slaughter the lot of them out of pure frustration.

Interesting the Dale Farm resisdents now have an MEP backing them...

Check out the video and you'll see that at least 3 Dale farm residents featured in the film were on the march.
