Sadly it seems the council are taking more serious action than the fans. Shameful in my opinion.

We should of pressured him for big changes a few years ago. We might of moved forward then rather than a long drawn out process of going backwards.

We are screwed, the club has been taking liberties for years. Ron needs to loosen his grip on the club if it is stay afloat and I don't blame the council at all, their only fault is believing Ron would pay 6 million to them. Everyone do the Euro millions tonight I fear it is our only hope.

17 different wards

Yes, 17 wards each with 3 Councillors, total 51, make up full Council. However today's meeting is a Special Development Control Committee meeting which has 17 councillors, I've added the latest list from the Council's website but I have a feeling this is last year's.

So far have failed to find any details of today's meeting anywhere on the Council site where the Planning Officer's recommendations would normally be available for scrutiny. Not unusual as SBC have a habit of not putting any details up of these meetings until long after the event......:winking: Good reason for the proposed introduction of showing all Council and Committee meetings on live Webcast from next year as we wouldn't have to sit and wait for tweets or texts from the meeting we could all watch live as it happens. :'(

Indeed. Although it should be pointed out that, as far as I'm aware, this was only about the amount we should pay as part of the S106 agreement. Therefore we still have planning permission.

What we therefore need is someone to stump up £4m, and accept that they won't have any say in the project, or benefit in any way from it, and we're sorted. That shouldn't be too difficult.

Not true - we only have planning permission once the s.106 legal agreement is signed - the amount we pay towards the town centre is enshrined within that agreement, so until they agree to a lower amount or we agree to pay the original sum we do not have planning permission!

That was the point I was making. We still have planning permission so long as we stump up the money.

I think we need to calm down a bit

Are any of us really surprirsed at the outcome of theis meeting?

Did any opf us really think that the council would simply roll over ?

Do we really think that the outcome is a surprise for Ron of the Council. It would not surprise me if this was fully expected . From the clubs perspective if the stadium is dealyed by a further few months and it saves us GBP4 million, isn't think good business?
Re 'Ron world' , the new application shows that he has to build the 4th side before the retail park (unless I and others have misread it) so this is good news . Where is Ron going to get the money from ? Well the above mena that on paper he has an extra GBP 4 million to spend on the 4th stand.

So annoying yes, but personally I am not convinced it is as devestating as others are suggesting

I think we're both right really - I was just being pedantic as I'm a chartered town planner by profession!

You're right - if we pay the sum originally agreed (£6m) then we can have planning permission. I'm also right - we don't have planning permission at the moment because Ron wants to reduce the amount we pay to £2.2m.

Planning permission will only technically be granted once the s.106 is signed, and until we can agree with SBC the amount and schedule of payments for all sums due (the town centre is only one of them) then we do not have planning permission and therefore cannot proceed.

My guess is there will be a lot of behind the scenes negotiations between now and March - hopefully Sainsbury's (and their technical and legal teams) will be very much involved too.

was there any rreason given for it being deferred. I think they have to have a reason, rather than they can't or won't make a decsion. Have they asked for more infromation. I think it's interesting one councillor queried if they said no it ending as a Judicial Review. Seems to imply to me that the club have a case. If only we had a copy of the officer's report which should be publiuc. I went to the same committee last week to see how the Grand Hotel plans were going and the officers reports were in the committee papers avaialble to the public. I cannot find anything on line however.

I always thought the £6m being asked by the council was too much. The type of retail units (Food supermarket, DIY, Coffee Shop etc) at FF will not drive trade away from the high street in any significant numbers.

Lets face it the high street is doomed anyway due to:

a) Parking charges (which are controlled by the council) are too high and will always drive business to Lakeside etc
b) Lack of protection from weather will drive traffic to Lakeside, Bluewater etc
c) Business Rates (council controlled) and Rents are too high, again forcing the closure of many small business.
d) Internet sales which have significantly lower overheads are much more competitive.

If the council wants to support the high street they should look at A and C first, because £6m from SUFC isn't going to fix the problem.

Shock horror.

Put the club up for sale NOW.

And before a smart arse says who will buy it?

I don't ****ing know. But let's see if anyone comes forward eh?

Something needs to be done, thats for sure.

Exactly. And let's not forget the Victoria Gateway "improvements" cost £7million! I shudder at the thought of what they'd do with another 6!
