I spend a lot of time on flight radar looking at the aircraft movements. There is a lot of flights still coming and going to and from the US. I’m not sure if these are passenger or cargo. I thought travel to the US from the UK has been banned?
How many are going to Eire?
It often seems the Septics have blinkers on if anything to do with the Irish.

I see HMG are thinking about imposing a 14 day quarentine on anyone coming into the UK from abroad when the lockdown finishes (or at least having some airport check, which sounds more sensible).

I'd be interested to see what measures other countries take when the time comes (especially Spain and France).

Thinking back to late Feb people at work and on Twitter were playing it down so much, so many comments on Twitter like 'it's a cold' etc. it annoyed me because I was pretty confident it would be bad but people didn't want to know.

Are these people for real? I personally think the lockdown needs to continue as we're in the peak. It should be tightened up if anything, as more people are going out and about, and a few places are re-opening. All the good work done could be undone. Ask any NHS staff working on the frontline, if the lockdown should be eased.

All the way through this I’ve listened to the CMO and Sir Patrick Vallance and will continue to do so mainly because my knowledge of dealing with pandemics is rather limited.

A sensible approach however I would suggest that his knowledge is quite limited too, no one has had to deal with something like this before.

The difference being we're all guessing and he is taking an educated guess

An educated guess supported by scientific evidence wins over guessing every time.

New threat to children mentioned here:

We have lost some children [...] There are some children who have died who didn’t have underlying health conditions.
It’s a new disease that we think may be caused by coronavirus and the COVID-19 virus, we’re not 100% sure because some of the people who got it hadn’t tested positive, so we’re doing a lot of research now but it is something that we’re worried about.
It is rare, although it is very significant for those children who do get it, the number of cases is small.

Kawasaki disease. It's as if nature is fighting back.

Absolutely a good and sensible thing to do. My copy and pasted bit was deleted as too political. Unfortunately the government is in charge, so they will be be mentioned now and again, as they would be no matter who is in charge. This is not the time to worry about which side you normally vote for. This thread hasn't gone too political considering the enormity of the situation. The post was about rich businessmen wanting the end of lockdown. Obviously these businessmen are putting loss of trade and money before life and death. You can guarantee that nearly everyone if not all of these, have stocks and shares in their own companies and have invested heavily in the stock market. Yes, they have lost a huge amount of money. But they should listen to the CMO and Sir Patrick Valance and every other medical and Science person I have seen on the tele is advising against stopping or easing the lockdown. I'm with these people, and not the ones driven by money. So many lives have been lost, over 100 NHS staff have died, just doing their job trying to save others. We can't risk a second wave. Also, there are thousands of people suffering through other medical conditions, that have had their treatment and operations postponed. A cancer medical person said this morning on the radio that these patients need to be seen, diagnosed and treated before it's too late.

Sadly, the economy WILL be the overriding and deciding factor eventually and the Govt are under huge pressure to get things moving. Yes there’s the health advice but the likes of Valance/Whitty aren’t focusing so much on businesses folding, unemployment, mental health and other knock on effects of a forced lockdown. Obviously any upward trend in death rates and a second spike are a huge concern hence the extension of lockdown and continued “stay home” message. Plus this disease is such an unknown. In 3/4 weeks’ time the hope will be that the NHS will be able to cope, there’s sufficient beds/ventilators/PPE and testing and tracking has been ramped up sufficiently. As has been said, a second peak/lockdown would be an absolute disaster. But the pressure is on and will increase and increase.

i do like this .... i like the silencing of all dissent.

It reminds me how thin our grip on freedom really is

There are all manner of political websites for you to share your views on. This is a football website and fan community related to Southend United. It has proven to not be a forum that can debate politics considerately, and therefore politics discussion is banned to keep this a pleasant place for all. That isn’t up for discussion and political posts will continue to be removed. It would be helpful if you could please keep that in mind in future.

Thanks Spiffy. It’s really quite simple so I’ll say it again. We banned politics because posters were not able to do it sensibly and respectfully to a point where it was completely ruining the ShrimperZone experience.

As for quieting dissent, I really couldn’t give a monkeys whether it’s pro-government or anti-government. I have enough PMs from both right wing and left wing posters bemoaning how unfair it all is that we’re favouring “the other side” to make me think we’ve got the balance about right.
