Breaking News Charley Kendall Signs

But he's 5 ft 9" I believe ? and not exactly prolific. I'd prefer Quigley, especially if we were to lose Pepple
Quigley is far from prolific. Career record is about 1 in 5
180 starts 125 sub, goals 64
No goals this year
So for comparison Bonne
239 starts 158 sub, goals 98 many at much higher level.
Note sub appearances skew thins so goals per minute on pitch a more useful measure.
However, Quigley would have provided an aerial threat up to for which we are currently 100% reliant on Bonne.
Kendall is in the Walker mode I think, very hardworking, fits the press very well, so not surprising we are interested. However to your point probably we could do with another striker who gives us that aerial threat if we are not to rely on the improving Bonne (who at least doesn’t appear to be made of china)

Its not unfortunately. Not saying he is definitely going but people higher up in football recognise Bims attributes even though some of our fans still don't.
Our best hope is that Luton see how well he is coming on here, and improving, and playing regularly, and decide that continuing that path is better than a loan somewhere else they may undo the good work. Kind of if it’s not broken at this point- no doubt they will also ask Bim how he feels.

I love how some people on here are expecting a 20 goal striker with our budget and then writing off Kendall before he has even kicked a ball for us.
Quite. BW said we were in for him in the summer but we couldn’t meet the £. Or another way we were outbid by Woking..
I see nothing to say we aren’t sticking to our guns re sustainability and seeking “value”. This is how that looks.

BTW no bad thing. Throwing £ at the problem doesn’t guarantee results. At the same time this way we need patience (which many lack)…

Kendall turns 24 in 2 days time. Happy Birthday Charley. 69 appearances since 2023 scoring 10 goals , is not shabby either with no specific injury concerns ? Fits the profile also described as extremely dedicated lad
Just right
Also worth mentioning many of those were sub appearances- again would look way better as goals per minute on pitch.

If what London Shrimper has posted is correct then I find it perplexing that we seem to have gone from attempting to sign an out and out target man to negotiating the signing of a different category of striker altogether, one who appears to feed off balls slipped in behind defenders. As currently set up, the former type of striker appears to make sense whereas presently we do not consistently provide the sort of service upon which Kendall would thrive. Now, it could be that we are after both types of player but if not then it is somewhat curious change of direction. But in any event, how interesting to have this topic to debate in the bleak midwinter.

I guess it depends if Luton want him tested at league 2 level now, or whether that can wait for next season.

The Shrimpers are delighted to announce the signing of striker Charley Kendall, who arrives on an 18-month contract with a club option.

Kendall, who turns 24 on Sunday and joins from fellow Vanarama National League club Woking, was born in Eastbourne and spent five years in Queens Park Rangers’ academy before joining his hometown club on loan.

He netted 30 goals across a few spells for the Sports, 25 of them coming in the 2021/22 National League South season.

The forward signed for Lincoln City in 2022 and scored on his debut for them, which came in an EFL Cup game.

While at the Imps, Kendall spent time out on loan at Sutton United, who were in League Two at the time, as well as Bromley and Dagenham & Redbridge.

He left Lincoln permanently in January of this year and added to his experience in the National League by signing for Woking.

Kendall, who will wear shirt number 24 at Roots Hall, played 35 league games for the Cards this calendar year, scoring seven goals.

Upon arriving in SS2, Charley said: “It feels really good to be here. It’s a massive club with a massive following and I’m really excited. Any club you go to, the fanbase is one of the biggest things you look for so that was a big part of me coming here.

“There’s a lot of experienced boys here so hopefully I can learn from them and help them with a thing or two myself as well.
“I bring high energy and a goal threat; I like to wear the other team down and score as many goals as possible.”

Head Coach Kevin Maher added: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get this deal over the line and bring Charley to the football club. Not only is he a talented striker, but the club have done well to get such a good deal for us.

“Charley’s attributes will be a great fit for the squad and our forward line. He comes with a strong understanding of the division too despite still being a relatively young man at 23 years old.

“We feel Charley’s best years are still ahead of him, and we’re excited to work with him on the training ground to get the best out of him.”

Re: Kendall Gone

I'm pretty gutted about that to be honest!

I'm sure he was never going to set the world alight for us, but he at least ran around and looked like he gave a ****.

At a time when half the time there is only 2 players worth turning up at Kingfield to watch, I cant help but feel disappointed that one is leaving
