While I am extremely disappointed with this decision it had become inevitable. As will the introduction of B teams in the League structure. Without delving more into the facts, I would think it unlikely the Under 21 sides would play anywhere other than their Club's main ground.

So you think they are going to open up The Emirates, The Etihad, Old Trafford or the Olympic Stadium for their U21's vs Accrington Stanley on a Tuesday night?

Well they certainly won't be playing at their training grounds. Plus I think you will find that F.A. Youth Cup matches are played on the main grounds. I see from the press release each Premier side will have only 1 home game at the Group stage.

Personally I would be more concerned with the discussions to be held in June 2017 about the introduction of a 5th Division and a reduction of Clubs in each Division to 20.

I e-mailed Steve Kavanagh, from what he said. We voted for this.

Sad. Can post the e-mail if people want to.

We should boycott the Johnstones Paint trophy and anyone attending branded as a scab. This is the thin end of the wedge and people have no idea what it will lead to. The premier league sides want their reserve sides in the football league. Think this won't affect Southend? Well think again. It was only a few years ago we were finishing in the bottom half of the fourth division, precisely the sides they want to replace. Accrington replaced by Man City B, Braintree replaced by Chelasea B, Southend replaced by Tottenham reserves. Think it won't happen? It bloody well will.

Boycott the johnstones paint trophy. Target the sponsors and most of all target the scumbags who turn up to support premiership reserve teams. Children crying, parents distressed foreigners frightened. That's what I want. Or we lose SUFC and a great deal of other football league clubs.

Very disapointed and annoyed by this change as feel there is little benefit for the FL clubs. May change my mind when I calm down but I am tempted to boycott these games as a matter of principle.

The only reason I can see out club voting in favour of this is there must be a considerable financial gain from them being included....

Honestly I've thought about it and I don't think it will make a massive difference to the oppertunity of getting to Wembley for teams like us, it is a different game from the u-21 ranks to the professional leagues, as many have said on here when talking about Our youngsters not coming through as quickly as expected. If it is a pure youth - u21 team then I don't see that making a massive difference. Nor do I care about the financial gains or losses. It's the fact that this is clearly opening doors to have a set up like the Spanish leagues. Tie it in with the fifth division that might be added and it's clearly a trial run for the big teams academy's to see how they will fair in the lower professional leagues...

Teams in in the conference must be wondering what they have to do to catch a break, as they say the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer. The F.A and football league should be supporting those semi pro teams to bring them
up a level, not make it more difficult for them to ever reach the pro ranks.

Not all Prem teams FA youth cup games are played at their main stadium, plenty are played at other grounds. Mind you not training grounds.

Is there a rule that if a Prem team is drawn at home in this 'new' competition they have to play at their main ground?

Do training grounds meet the standards, have necessary licences etc for paying customers?

I had a quick look, and it's a bit of a generic answer, it seems the training grounds and academies have a capacity of around 1000, in terms of whether they have the relevant licences etc, who knows? but I would imagine so, as the under 21 games are shown on tv through their own club subscription channels. as for paying customers, chelsea charge £3 for an adult to watch their under 21 games at Aldershot.

I'll be boycotting all the trophy fixtures next season because of this. It'll save me some money that I can put into a protest banner telling the prem clubs to go do one. We're not stupid. This is back door infiltration into leagues one and two. Damn you Southend United for voting for this. Never forget that we the fans are the club, and we can turn on you very quickly Mr Martin. You may think you do but actually you have no idea how angry we can get.

Emerates, Wet Spams Tax Payers ground, or Buckingham Palace, it makes no difference to me. I wont be there.

I know we have had some debate and polls about the point of the JPT before (well almost every year actually). For me, this was my favourite cup, because to be completely honest, it was always going to be our best chance for a dream day out at Wembley and the possibility to watch our team lift a Trophy at the national stadium.

I liked the original format as the smaller clubs get to play against similar ranked opposition within a south / north divide, making it affordable & not too far to travel for away games on a Tuesday night.

What ever happened to the old saying of "if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it" ??..... Ooooh yeah..... Money!!

Just been looking into the rules of the under 21 premiership & cup competition format, and probably well known, but they can field a goalkeeper as well as 3 outfield players that are over the age of 21 in each match. I wonder if the same rules will apply to them in the new "JPT"?

... Most likely I think. And in which case, I can only imagine that they would probably field 4 decent / half decent premiership first team players over the age of 21 (perhaps coming back from injury or off form etc) as well as a selection of their England under 18's or 21's.... Which would Immediately put all the smaller clubs with much smaller squads like us being put on the back foot straight away, with the additional dilemma whether to rest them for the cup the match against Man Utd B for example, so they can play an important league one match a few days later.
Obviously The Chelsea's, the Man Utd's, Liverpool etc, don't have our problems, what with their 80+ squad members!

I will probably still attend an EPL cup game next season, but just purely on the basis that it is against what I would call a "normal" league opposition.

However, should we get drawn though against any premiersh*te B team, I will certainly not be attending, and also strongly urge all fellow shrimpers, as well as all other league 1 & 2 club fans to boycott these matches also!

Hopefully when Ron & the all the other club Chairman in the lower leagues take a quick glance at their Profit & Loss balance sheets from the nights takings, they will think very differently about extending the 1 year trial.

Can someone explain to me why playing against Morecambe on a Tuesday night in an 'EFL' trophy game attended by 500 people is going to help develop internationals capable of winning a world cup?

I hope we play our under 21s in the games against Premier League clubs. All football league fans should boycott any 'competetive' game against a Premier League B team.

This is a complete disgrace and is just a stepping stone to introducing them into the league. Also, I thought the proposed new league system was because there were too many fixtures, now they're introducing a group stage to the JPT which adds even more fixtures to the supposedly already congested fixture list. Hypocrites.

Bullet points from S.K's e-mail for the bits that matter;

- B teams would need 90% approval to get in the league
- Long debate on EFL, reasons compelling
- One year trial, see how it goes
- Need to try new things, wouldn't vote for B teams in the League however.

most prem clubs don't/won't give players a chance in our games so we have to do it for them. what rubbish.
it's not League 1 and 2's fault that top clubs don't give chances to young players but we have to have our best chance of a day out at Wembley ruined because they are too greedy and short-termist to give players a chance.

i hope this rots and no one attends but i'm sure it will do alright and the prem will have enough money to pay people off.

with all the billions from the TV deal do they cut ticket prices? do they take the chance of introducing younger players with less financial risk? no, that neither?
no, they take away our competition.

it stinks and i hope the whole thing sinks
