I am just amazed that l1 & L2 clubs have voted for this they must know the fans would be furious about this. This is the 1st step to getting Premier B teams into the football league

All you angry people who want to boycott matches and don't like the 'big boys' of the premiership treading all over us, are no doubt cancelling your sky TV as we speak.......No, thought not.

I don't have one.

As it happens, I'm anxiously waiting for the L1 fixtures to come out, so I can pick a game to come over for in September.

The idea of seeing us play against some Prem. club's under 21 side in mid-week doesn't appeal, quite frankly.

That's not really the point though is it?!

I don't mind watching Premiership football, I enjoy it. I don't enjoy having Premiership Under 21/B teams/academies teams being put into a competition for lower league sides.

The LDV/JPT or whatever it's called has rewarded us as a club with two trips to the Millenium Stadium and one to Wembley. It's awarded other clubs the same, it's the best chance for a lot of lower league clubs to play at Wembley.

As I said before, I won't be attending any games against these sides, even if that means missing out on a trip to Wembley. I'd rather watch us against bottom of league two, then against an Under 21 side. Farcical.

i'm with this.
i don't have sky but i enjoy top flight football.
my problem is that we are getting pushed aside to make up for the failures of top clubs.
this measure won't help. what will help is giving younger players a chance and no amount of reorganisation will affect the fact that top clubs don't give young players a chance.
Germany are the best at it, something like 60-70 % of bundesliga players are German because they give players a chance. Klopp has included young players at Liverpool and Danny Mills commented that it meant he was sending a message to the owners demanding money for players. That a member of the committee on the future of English football thinks like that says everything.
if anything in this country the problem is that we have too much money, success can be bought and people (clubs) can be bullied/'incentivised'

You really are missing the point. The Football League clubs voted for this.
Mick. Sorry to say but you are missing the point. Regardless of whether we voted for it or not most supporters are clearly against it. The club, no the league should explain what we are all missing.

Even if the u21 clubs all get beaten in the first round it isn't the point. It's wrong, there is nothing more to add. Personally I hope that the various supporters clubs come up with some kind of joint action . I would be amazed if other clubs supporters don't feel the same as us. I think the atmosphere for these young boys is going to be very very toxic. Personally if we draw an under 21 team at home I will be attending and letting my feelings be known!

The football league clubs voted for the better, higher pay days for them being knocked out in early rounds; they also voted to keep sweet the Prem OverLords who "might" loan them a few players in the future.
At present the only clubs that make money from the JPT are those that reach the area finals.
Money talks and loyalty to fans walks.

I think people need to remember that this is a PILOT, a one year trial and whilst we may not be in agreement with it in principle, it, like many changes to football in recent times, is worth at least trying. Whether we go along to games or not, is, of course, down to individuals.

Bullet points from S.K's e-mail for the bits that matter;

- B teams would need 90% approval to get in the league
- Long debate on EFL, reasons compelling
- One year trial, see how it goes
- Need to try new things, wouldn't vote for B teams in the League however.
Sorry but where are the bits that matter 'compelling reasons' what are they? He hasn't answered why we are doing this. Until he does he has lost my respect. The posts on this thread show the anger amongst supporters. We deserve to know what was discussed and what the advantages are for us. I am not happy with accepting there were compelling reasons' and that will do.

apologies, not shooting the messages, but am annoyed with the message.

I know you feel that you have to support the club but....
Why is it worth trying . Tell me what we have to gain? Do we know how the prize money will work vs the smaller crowds. And even if we gain that isn't necessarily reason to say it's a good idea. Money isn't everything ,

More than happy to respond if people wish

I am sure there will be a fuller explanation than the email response already alluded to on this thread in due course - let's not forget that SK has just returned from his charity bike ride.

Not at all. I was just responding to people who said that clubs should boycott the competition and pointing out they had no need to, they could have simply voted against it but didn't.

I agree with you and as I said earlier, I await Kavanagh's "compelling reasons".

I have read all the posts on this thread and it is great to see the anger about this new arrangement which again shows the arrogance of the Premier League clubs. It makes me proud to be among fellow Shrimpers who care deeply about their local club and smaller clubs in general. People who support clubs like ours and non league teams are the real heartbeat of football in this country and it seems that the football authorities treat us with contempt.

What has not really been picked up are the potential changes which will be voted on next year which will have an impact on teams such as Southend.

"They also discussed the EFL's proposals to add a new division of 20 teams to the English pyramid - meaning that there would be 100 teams in a five-division structure, rather than the current set-up of 92 clubs across four tiers.

There are currently 24 teams in the Championship, League One and League Two, below the 20-club Premier League.
The final decision on those proposals will be taken in June 2017".

Interesting to learn what Southend's views are on this.

Yes, so it's not 'worth trying" until we understand what the benefits are.

If this requires 90% vote, that means only 8 teams in F/League would need to vote against to scupper these plans. Based on the almost cross-board negative reaction that I hope most clubs will be getting today, there is NO chance a fifth division would be added (in fact, I think a fifth division would struggle to get 8 clubs voting for it!). Hopefully, L1 and L2 clubs will be bombarded with "feedback" from their fans that they are not happy with the JPT/EFL trophy proposals

Just a shame that the "powers that be" have chosen to destroy a cup competition specifically designed for lower league clubs.

What next? Academy teams in FA Vase?

The Guardian said:
• Sixteen academies set to join what was known as Johnstone’s Paint Trophy

Has anyone actually picked up on the fact that the article quoted by MK clearly indicates that Johnstone's will no longer be sponsoring the trophy? If they have been unable to find another sponsor, then that would be a clear reason to try and involve the 16 academy sides and to recoup some money by doing so.

I am absolutely sure that there is something at the root here that we clearly don't understand, which is why, despite my initial outrage I will look forward to hearing something actually from the club in response. I am at a meeting there on Monday so will press for a public explanation.

Yes, their 10 year sponsorship came to an end this year and it has been know for 3 months that they were not going to enter another deal. It is possible that the Football League has been unable to find a sponsor in its current format - perhaps they should have tried a Portuguese travel company !

Be interesting to hear the club spin any positives on this proposal, especially when I expect attendances at these matches to be VERY low.

Am guessing they are now committed to the proposal for 2016/17, with no options for amending/reversing?

Can you also ask if they ever had any intention in asking the fans what they thought?
