I'm boycotting any game that we are playing against Under 21/Academy sides.

I really hope we voted against it, and that is only lasts this one season as a trial, but me personally I'll have nothing to do with it.

Absolute insult to FL clubs. No mandate or demand for it. I hope everyone will boycott these games and play weakened teams.

I worry it could be the first step towards allowing U21/B perm teams into the league. Dead against it personally.

That was my first thought, football has just turned into a money machine nowadays, who cares about the small teams, it doesn't matter what we think.

As Rodney Trotter once said "Pull the ladder up Jack, sod the rest..."

This is disgusting for so many reasons. The fact it was put out today in the shadows of the Euros speaks volumes. And I loved the line " The proposals were approved at the English Football League's annual general meeting in Portugal this week". Portugal?? Are there no meeting rooms/conference facilities in England? Great use of football money. Sure though they were able to get some golf in. Must have been studying how FIFA likes to get out and about.

Behind this must also be the changes to the loan system meaning getting games for PL youngsters is even more crucial. For instance, I note Chelsea have 82 players for next season. Actually I would rather extend the entry to Conference teams instead of the overpaid and pampered PL prima donnas

If they restrict the U21 teams to players with less than a dozen 1st team starts; and have them all as only home nation eligible only then I will be slightly less cold on the idea as it might help nurture English/GB players.
And if they won't play their home games at their home stadia them they should switch the games to the other clubs ground.

All L1 & 2 clubs should either boycott the competition or put out the kids team, then start a new competition along the lines of the old one without inviting the Prem B's along. Simples!

Bang on, this is all about the EPL teams having massively bloated squads, 82 players!

Clubs should be restricted to how many players they can have on their books, loads of these fringe players are obviously not getting much good competitive football so they want to use our competitions to give them some when what should be happening is these players should be getting games actually playing for clubs in the lower leagues and then helping spread the money around by being bought by the EPL clubs when they prove their worth, you know, how it used to be.

The only way I would even countenance this being acceptable is if the Academy/U21 sides are not allowed to progress any further than the group stage so that the competition remains reserved for the L1 & L2 sides from that stage onwards.

Alternatively, if the EFL want the group stages and 64 teams to give group stages and balance the competition then invite the top 16 Conference sides in.....

Oh. Not really that great then.

No it isn't great, They all play at their clubs training ground facilities, with the exception I believe, of Chelsea U 21's who play all their home league and cup games at Aldershot Town's ground... believe me that's a far cry from your vision of the Olympic stadium or the bridge.

I for one will be boycotting if we get drawn against any of them.

One of the reasons it was implemented was an increase in the Prize Fund by £1m. A Prize Fund that will be won by a Premiership Club.

If they want players to get game time, don't allow clubs to hoard players. And get them to loan them out.

I hope that the majority of Southend fans, plus the majority of all L1 and L2 fans stay away from this "competition" in their masses. Stick two fingers up to Premier League. Just a shame the JPT trophy will have to undergo a whole farcical season before returning to normal in 2017/2018. Sad to think there will now be home games next season that I have absolutely no plans to attend! 2016/17 JPT/EFL final between Chelsea U21 and Man City U21? Brilliant (sarcasm)

You really are missing the point. The Football League clubs voted for this.

But by what margin? I'd like to know how we voted.

But as with the vote on the EFL Trophy proposal, it is thought that it was far from unanimous with several clubs voicing their displeasure at the process. It is also understood that there was some criticism of Lenagan’s record as an ambassador for League Two clubs while at Oxford.

Do training grounds meet the standards, have necessary licences etc for paying customers?
