Amazing how many people ( a number of which often call this a Mickey Mouse cup) are now getting very upset about prem teams joining. Am I alone in thinking it might be quite an interesting cup this year. I have thought about it and hope we do pull out a prem club to play. I will not boycott , that's for sure.

I agree. It would be so interesting to watch us lose 3-0 away to West Brom under 21s at their training ground in front of 76 people, what an exciting, competitive spectacle.

To be very clear, I've never called it a Mickey Mouse Cup, and I stand by everything I have said on this thread.

From page 1 of this thread- Central to the competition will be the introduction of a new group stage format with 16 regional groups of four teams

West Brom .Really. Back to school young man.

That's only the group stage. We could well end up playing WBA U21s if both teams progress.

Back to school young man.

Haven't read the entire thread, so apologies if these points have already been made.

1. When were we consulted on this?
2. **** off with your patronising **** about creating better home grown players. This isn't about creating England players so stop insulting our intelligence by pretending otherwise.

show us all an example?
and its irrelevant anyway - its the principle that matters !

I imagine the upper echelons were, and then decided it was a good thing as we (the club) voted for it.

2 progress from each group of 4. It stays regional until the very late stages. If we have got that far through. I think we would be happy to travel to West Brom and I guarantee by that stage there would be more than 75 there.

I disagree, but either way, you were wrong.

The team we might be playing really wasn't the point (although as mentioned we might play WBA at a later stage). I couldn't care less about which team's training ground we're going to be playing at in this now joke of a competition. I highly doubt many people are going to share your enthusiasm about travelling to a training ground to watch us play against largely unknown under 21 players in what will effectively be a friendly game.

I'm suprised that any lower league football fan is pleased about the introduction of under 21 teams into a previously competitve lower league competiton. Would you also welcome these under 21 teams into the league as well? Because that's what they're going to try and force upon us next.

Good to see club making a statement in the morning to share their views.
I imagine that if you play a U21 team away it would have to be at their main ground- where it is played would have to meet FL standard else they would have to come to us. Don't think any of the PL clubs concerned have a second ground for their U21 that meets FL standards.
Also these teams may be U21s but what does that mean in reality? With our U21s for example we sometimes play a number of senior players- so how many overage players can they play?
I don't particular like this mostly due to not wanting it to lead to something else down the line. Financially i guess the extra £1m is coming in from the PL clubs and I am guessing Arsenal U21 home or away is going to attract a decent crowd and more £££ opportunity. If we supported it i suspect we will get the financial implications explained tomorrow.

Why oh why did they gave to put a tine. You just know it's going to be late. Why set yourself up to fall.

He makes the odd good point, and says a lot of things I disagree with strongly, but credit where it's due - it's a long statement that doesn't hold back and explains his precise reasoning (even where that reasoning is just £££), none of that bollocks we get from Ron, even if he's only done it to appease us.

And, if nothing else, I'm glad he's ruling out voting for B teams in the league.

Remember Nick Clegg's stance on students?!

After reading that statement I think I'd rather the competition was just left to 'die' as it was put by SK.

It's a well reasoned statement which raises many good points, and doesn't patronise supporters by claiming that this decision has been reached for any reason other than a financial one. If it's going to result in £10, 20, 30 or however many thousands of extra pounds, and Kavanagh considers that to be in the best interests of the club, then he's entitled to take that stance.

While I don't agree with it personally, I can see why it's been reached and, to be perfectly honest, unless we get to the final I've struggled to give much of a toss about a tournament which only adds to an already grossly congested fixture schedule.

So just to clarify. If we got too a final against say a prem side. Do we think the prem club would treat it as a cup final. Would much rather have the bottom 6 championship clubs and the top 6 conference clubs taking part. Getting thumped by kids in a Mickey mouse cup is not appealing to anyone.

How exactly does playing the same number of League matches as we have for the last 65 years suddenly become a "grossly congested fixture schedule" ?

Bowers' 13 games in a month was a grossly congested fixture schedule.

More often than not we mitigate this situation by leaving the cups early.

To be honest, why on earth should we be?

Not many have enough of the relevant information to be able to make a sensible choice and many are just dead set against any sort of change so will simply say no regardless.

Too many cooks and all that.
