Got us into League one you mean after languishing in League 2 for years and only narrowly missed play offs last year?

He deserved some leeway after his achievements here, even if Brown bashers want to write them all off as luck.

That said I can't see him lasting much longer.

The varying view of his successes, luck or judgment, are quite immaterial. We got promoted under his stewardship and his name goes down in the history book alongside the achievement. However, past accomplishments, do not provide an automatic pardon for the situation we find ourselves in now. He has to own his failure as much as his achievement.

I am in no doubt he believes he can turn things around. Unfortunately he is only one ingredient in the mix and I am unconvinced that the rest of the recipe wants to blend with him.

I expect I am one of those you refer to as a 'Brown basher,' but I prefer the term critic. I have not believed in his tactics etc but that is purely on a footballing level and not personal at all. Sometimes it can be quite heroic to carry on fighting when your back is against the wall but rising to the challenge is somewhat superfluous when the people do not accept you as their champion.

They dont pardon anything, but they do give a reason why Ron would give him some time to turn things around. Ron has never been quick to pull the trigger he does give managers time and Phil's record would have earnt him it.

I personally think it will take a miracle for him to survive now though.

The key, for me, is whether Ron sees PB as long-term.

With his contract up in the summer, it's unlikely Ron will be looking to renew, as it stands at the moment.

What he will want to see is a belief that the players and manager have it in them to work as a team and turn things around. For me, he has two simple choices :-

1) He believes PB can make that turnaround and then he will review at the end of the season

or

2) Having someone in temporary charge would change the fortunes around and ensure survival

The removal of Nile suggests RM is supporting PB and giving him time to re-assemble, but with tricky home games coming up and a woeful away record, I'd be surprised if he'll allow it to continue much longer.

I agree totally. I believe he has had the time. The season before last ended in December and last season fell away so badly. we may have missed out on the play-off's by one point but with half a dozen games to go the spot was ours for the taking and we threw it away. We do not appear to be able to start a season or finish a season and have relied on a good run in the middle. This too appears to have forsaken us.

I don't know if it would take a miracle for PB to survive, he seems to get unerring support from RM, but it would take a miracle for PB to be a future asset.

Last week suggested a massive clearing of the decks to prepare for a refresh. Issue is who should be entrusted to use and of the Leonard funds that are to be made available and / or space created on the wage bill.
I have long supported Brown but this year the football has got stuck in a rut and he shows no sign of being able to change it. One of the problems yesterday was that we were still playing as if hoofing the ball up to Ranger but to players quite unsuited for that. I feel that new ideas / approach are now needed and whatever can be done in the Transfer window should be in support of them and not of a busted flush.
Reluctantly (as i don't like to see anyone lose their job) in my opinion it is urgently time for a new Manager.

Whether PB stays beyond the end of this season is another question. The issue is whether or not a change of manager NOW is going to help or hinder. My view is more likely the latter and that the surgery that is necessary in terms of the playing staff to get us back on track is known and (in terms of Ranger) already on the way. This surgery includes (by the way) the zero chance, I hope, of Turner, Wright, Wordsworth and Cox being offered extensions, Robinson and McGlashan moved on asap and a dialogue with Ferdinand and Kightly as to their playing futures beyond the end of the season. Anyone new coming in now might want time to assess the squad and delay/inaction, in my opinion, could be the biggest threat to our league status. The transfer window and player negotiations are key not just for this season but beyond.

Whatever happens, it's gotta happen soon. Two wins, two draws in our last 11 league games.
We're going down faster that last night's party balloons.

I've voted for change...I'm not hugely anti PB, but it's got a bit like when Sturrock had to go. It's not just the poor results and the lack of confidence that we can beat anyone, but it's pretty grim even when we do get a decent result, visiting Roots Hall has not been an enjoyable experience for a while and for that reason, I'm out.

While I’d love Chris Powell I think Simin Grayson would be an excellent choice - getting 4 different clubs out of League One and into the Championship is a phenomenal pedigree at this level.

Grayson is not a person I would like to see in charge. More of the same.

Adam Barrett knows this league well and the kind of players it will take to be successful. He will also know all about the current squad and be able to make fast decisions....no learning curve required. He's an intelligent man, a great leader and LOVES our club. It's an absolute no-brainer for me if he's interested.....

It's all well and good knowing the right players, but getting them to come to Southend is the problem any manager will find.

As for being a great leader, is there any evidence and just because he loves the club, doesn't guarantee success.

Personally if PB goes go, I can't see Ron taking a chance on an unproven manager.

Personally I don't think AB is the man for the job at the moment, maybe a number 2 to an experienced manager

There are no guarantees for anyone but there is plenty of evidence that AB is a great leader of men - look at his success with us and what was written about him by his peers when he retired. His arrival at the club completely changed our fortunes.

He is in a similar position to Steve Tilson when he began his managerial career with us. We need an antidote to the big time/waste of time mentality that we have in the club at the moment. AB is the right man for the job.

Trouble is, players aren’t all stupid, they talk to other players, look on the internet.

Would any player want to come into the utter mess the club and changing room is currently.

Come and play for me says Phil, oh btw, I might be sacked tomorrow and the new manager might not like you.

A clean break is needed now.

I think Adam wouldn't be the worse choice in the world. What have we got to lose. Brown has.nothing more to offer, we need new blood so I say give him a go.

personally I like knowing the logic behind an opinion. Many a time I have had a different opinion to someone, but once They have explained their view of have changed my opinion. I certainly don’t think the other person is an idiot simply because they disagree with the majority view.

The majority view is often formed by the person who spoke first out loudest. It’s right to challenge if you disagree.

Our League One status for a start. It took us long enough to get it back so I for one am not assuming it couldn't get any worse. It most certainly could!

I will never understand the whole AB thing. A fabulously consistent player for Southend over the years but in terms of future managerial material I think not.

Our League One status is what we have to lose; hardly nothing is it!!

If relegation doesn't matter we may as well keep PB until the end of the season (which won't cost us anything) and start afresh next season.

BTW I'm not in the slightest suggest we do that

On what basis do you not think he'll make it as a manager? Have you met him? Have you spoken to people who have worked with him or managed him?
