Brexit negotiations thread

I’m sure many people would..maybe a reduction in unfettered eu immigration will force employers to offer better terms to hire and keep employees.. imagine that... a return to the good old days where the employees call the shots every now and then in the economic cycle, rather than employers just shipping in more zero hours contract gofers from Eastern Europe, then discarding them at will...
I’m still amazed labour has gone the opposite way on this. The biggest electoral own goal in decades..

If you believe the rich who bankrolled the Great British public into voting for Brexit have the best interests of the working classes at heart then you're going to be sadly disappointed. The erosion of workers rights it what they truly want, the ability to hire & fire at will with no comeback.

Oh it's those nasty successful, rich people up to their pesky, self-serving schemes again is it?

Meanwhile, here's a list of some people who either aren't rich enough or didn't get the memo, along with their respective donations to Remain campaign:

Lord Sainsbury (Net worth: £560 million) Donation: £4,228,234
David Harding (Net worth: £1.3 billion) Donation: £1 million
Mike Gooley (Net worth: £360 million) Donation: £1 million
Mark Coombs (Net worth: £1.156 billion) Donation: £750,000
Lloyd Dorfman (Net worth: £556 million) Donation: £600,000
Nathan Kirsh (Net worth: £3.977 billion) Donation: £500,000
Lisbet Rausing (Net worth: £9.25 billion) Donation: £359,000
Ian Taylor (Net worth: £180 million) Donation: £359,000
Denise Coates (Net worth: £5 billion) Donation: £262,500
Andrew Law (Net worth: £475 million) Donation: £200,000

Aaron Banks: £8M+
Peter Hargreaves: £3.2M

And there's a load more here that knocks your list into a cocked hat, but I really don't want to get into willy slapping. It's so demeaning.

I don’t believe the ‘rich’ could bankroll a national vote with their own money, anymore than Cameron and remain could with the taxpayers
I actually do give a toss about the working classes, and am amazed that labour are happy to enable these rich you talk about, to do exactly as you suggest.
Import cheap pre trained labour at will from eastern Europe .. at least a decent labour shortage gives the working classes a chance to exercise some muscle, boost pay and condition..
Well untill they get a bit carried away and price themselves into years of unemployment like the 70,s

So do I.I don't think anyone in the working class (or any other class presumably) voted to make themselves poorer. However, that will be the inevitable result of Brexit for the vast majority of UK citizens, especially those without specialised skills in the labour market or property to fall back on .

Thy control the media, they can pay for Facebook & Twitter to be perverted as per the Cambridge Analytica scandal, they can easily fund any fines due to campaign overspending. Eastern European labour isn't stealing jobs - zero hours contracts and the advancement of technology however is.

They don’t control the balls the bbc spouts out.. tonight’s news with a huge section about farmers whining about no seasonal staff .. naturally it’s a huge brexit whine.. untill we reach the single sentence snuck in saying , there isn’t a shortage this year... wtf is the whole article about then ..

There is not a shortage of jobs in this country, unemployment is at historical lows .. if you want to see a lack of jobs Southern Europe is the place to go, especially youth unemployment..
**** conditions are not caused by automation, they are caused by the ability of firms to ship in cheap labour, thus making it impossible for the unskilled working class to demand better conditions or training...

much like the whining farmers on the bbc.. short of staff? Pay higher wages

So Lord Nigel Lawson, major Brexiter (who lives in France btw) applies for French Citizenship. :nope:

Ha! Not French citizenship (as such) merely a "carte de séjour" ie proof of his legal residence in France.Certainly a good idea to apply, while the UK is still a member of the EU.Guarantees his rights to the excellent medical care system in France after Brexit, which as an 86 year old,he'll probably need to avail himself of at some point in the future.

(FWIW,I'm a big fan of The Connection and always try and pick up a copy when we're in the Midi).

You can't help but have a sly little dig at your country of birth can you? You can dress it up how you like but we all see why you make the comments you do and we all see the insinuations you imply.

He's minted and won't have the need or the inkling to go anywhere near a state run health service, as well you know. He can well afford to go private in either France or the UK and I dare say his pension is set up to supply all the medical care he could need for gratis. The UK leaving the EU will have absolutely bugger all impact on his ability to receive first class health care in whatever country he chooses.

FYI in France, most retired, professional people have a "mutua" ie top up private heath insurance, (like my wife),which they use to supplement the excellent national French heath service provision.

Certainly in Spain (and I believe that's also true of France and the UK) elderly people who need emergency treatment are usually taken to a state run hospital first before perhaps later receiving palliative care in a private establishment,if they've paid into a private health scheme and of course have the necessary paperwork to show they're legal residents in the first place, ie a "carte sejour" in France.

Edit.As a Brit.living in Spain, (with a French wife), I naturally have an interest in these matters.I don't expect things to change for me personally or my family after Brexit takes place but I'm keeping a close eye on the situation (like many others I know).

Live on Sky News Tonight - new #BrexitForensics story as European Governments issue advice to their exporters not to use parts from Britain - Top car exec tells me “catastrophe” for UK auto

Dutch Government official advice to its business community warns its manufacturers “if a large part of your product consists of parts from the UK” they may lose free trade terms for exports.

“After Brexit, parts made in UK no longer count towards this minimum production in EU”

Barna, you call that a plan!???? It's as much in fairyland as May's cherry picking. It's quite evident it has no chance of being accepted by the EU and, in seriousness, is more about attempting to hold the Labour Party together than a realistic template for our future relationship with the EU. OMG! where are we being led by our politicians? Both main parties appear to have lost touch with reality and are concentrating on arranging the furniture in their own houses rather than giving a vision of the UK's future rôle in the world. Surely we deserve better?......and as the EU reminds us, the clock is ticking fast and loud..........little more than 9 months now. There was an excellent article in the Independent yesterday, which accused, in my view correctly, both of them of looking backwards at some mythical Britain of the past. https://www.independent.co.uk/voice...ng-up-theresa-may-jeremy-corbyn-a8380491.html

Ha! Yogi, I think we both know it gives Labour sufficient justification to abstain in the eventual vote on the final Brexit deal.Nothing more & nothing less. Will have a look at the Indy piece.
