Brexit negotiations thread

May is fooling herself if she thinks her deal is getting through Parliament and despite the noise of Johnson & Mogg & Co, the vast majority of MPs won't want the chaos of a no-deal Brexit.

What next? The noise of a no-Brexit is getting louder. Lets hope the country sees sense after 2 1/2yrs of self inflicted madness.

We already have and by the way it was actually 41 years but granted the madness has only truly kicked in during the last 20.

I'm no expert on betting but those odds seem pretty close............well, there's no racing certainty there! Would you risk your money on either eventuality?

They are close and I wouldn't put money on it. I do put more stock in the bookies odds than opinion polls though as it is literally people putting their money where their mouth is. Leaving the EU looks more likely than not, albeit by a fine margin.

Which doesn't tell you much as the original referendum was very close.

May taking questions from the great british public soon. Generally an easy ride apart from Thatcher's 'Belgrano' kind of moment. Wouldn't be surprised to see her appear with Sophy Ridge whose interviews, from what I saw last Sunday, are not too probing and aggressive.

See the Maybot wants Joe public to back her deal.

I don't see how we the public can back that deal. It not only keeps us half in half out, it leaves us to trust in the EU on certain deadlines when the rules change. They will hold all the cards and will punish us further for leaving. Then there's the Northern Ireland betrayal. It also sounds like the fishing rights is not going to plan.

I would agree there's probably not enough time before the "meaningful vote" to keep the public onside and get constituents to lobby their MP's.General election anybody?

Honestly TUIB what would a General Election achieve (in the VERY unlikely event of one being called)? It would probably only serve to expose the divisions in the Labour Party, as I doubt Corbyn would be able to maintain his convenient position of sitting on the fence.

Sitting on the fence policy is a pre May deal policy. The policy gives Brexit a chance to work but if the government lack the ability to negotiate a workable deal then it allows space for Brexit and the government to collapse, With a general election that policy would have run its course.

1.It would see the election of a Labour government.

2.Labour's policy on Brexit is crystal clear. The party is in favour of continued access to a/the custom's union. That would allow much closer alignment to the EU after Brexit than anything in Mrs May's plan
