Asked some Swindon fans on twitter. All said the same that Smith played best under Luggy, not very vocal need a good vocal CB in front of him. And he's a 'confidence player' who needs the fans behind him. Makes me think of a Steve Mildenhall player that needs fans backing but never got it for most of his first season.
To be honest, I remember people being distinctly unimpressed by Luke Daniels' first match away against Barnet, I think in the JPT.Though I'm not sure Mildenhall was a confidence player, you are right to point out that his lack of backing from sections of our 'supporters'. In fact, I think he was barracked in his first appearance and several games into the season Tilly issued an appeal for people to get off his back. The widespread anger on here at that time about what was seen as the dire unacceptability of everything regarding that side will never cease to amaze me.
The Echo comments do seem to suggest Phil Smith which has prompted quite a few comments of disappointment though as someone else has mentioned people were underwhelmed when Cameron Belford was first signed only for him to become a 'must keep' at the end of the season.
There has a theme running through this.
Personally I'm surprised we haven't gone back in for Daniels. I can only imagine that this has to be because either WBA won't let him out on loan or that the budget won't stretch to it. He did extremely well for us last season and in my opinion is too good for League Two.
