He played 8 League games for Swindon last season and, amazingly for a team that won the League by a mile, they lost 6 out of the 8 (they lost less matches from the 38 he didn't play!). Co-incidence maybe or alarm bells ?

Thats a quite incredible stat. I expect he will be fairly cheap in terms of wages

Phil Smith or David Lucas?

Can't say I would be overly excited about either of those.

Alnwick

Sex tape scandal
On 7 December 2006, tabloid newspaper The Sun reported Alnwick, along with team-mates Chris Brown and Liam Lawrence had filmed themselves in an orgy with a brunette girl referred to as 'Stevie'. In the video, Brown films his team-mates perform sexual acts on the girl as well as themselves, and is said to give "Match of the Day" style commentary throughout. Former Sunderland midfielder Martin Woods also features on the tape partially clothed, along with two other men. In reference to the watching men, Brown reportedly comments “Here’s the boys — the watching faithful — every week without fail.”[SUP][/SUP]

And????????????? who gives a ****??????????

Hmm. A little underwhelmed if it's Smith or Lucas, would have gone for Belford personally.

Anyway, whoever it is, they're very welcome to SUFC.

If you read the Echo article it says he played in league 2 last season so its not Lucas who was playing for Rochdale. Smith ticks the boxes of playing in League 2 last season and being an ex Luggy player.

indeed, lets wait until he concedes a goal, and then lay into him for being too short/flappy/slow/quiet/unsteady/rubbish first!

That's one way of looking at it. However, if we take the Southend approach and adopt a consensus that Phil Smith is the worst keeper we've had since 'Dinner plates' Emberson and is probably not even Essex Senior level on a good day, then he can only improve, right?

I'm off to RH with a football I just bought from Sports Direct, I'll see whoever's signing and then shout "OI", punt the ball at them as hard as I can, if they fumble, not catch it or get out the way then they are ****.

I love the way the Echo gives us these clues. Don't know if I've ever seen this Smith play, when I first heard the name I thought of Paul Smith the former Southamtpon goalie. Is he really any better than Morris? Why not just get a Premiership/Championship player on loan for a season? Wouldn't cost anything or very little.

Asked some Swindon fans on twitter. All said the same that Smith played best under Luggy, not very vocal need a good vocal CB in front of him. And he's a 'confidence player' who needs the fans behind him. Makes me think of a Steve Mildenhall player that needs fans backing but never got it for most of his first season.

the bloke from macclesfield....vega

I've seen him play a few times and he has always done okay - not sure he has ever played for Sturrock before - but he certainly is big enough to command the box and pick out the crosses.

Much as I dislike the loan system, it is there and we may as well abuse it as much as our competitors - so Daniels back on a year loan would be my preference.

But people keep saying in Luggy we trust and i agree. Over the past two seaons he has signed some really good players and from no team and relegation candidates we finshed mid table. He had a small clear out and bought in better players and we finished 4th. Does anyone argue with the list ( although unconfirmed) of players released in the summer. If for example we do sign the likes of Eastwood, Hurst and a few others of that quality Luggy would have once again strengthend the squad. I have seen Smith play numerous times and he has done ok and if PS feels he is the right man then we must trust his judgment.
