Post-Match Thread and Ratings Bishop's Stortford 0 - 2 Southend United, Saturday 20th July

Will be interesting to hear the formation from those there as I did wonder whether we might set up more 523 this year with the double pivot of Miley and Morton and allowing 3 from Cardwell, Waldron, Wood, Walker and Bridge up top

………….…… Collin
…. Crowther Kensdale Gubbins
Gus…………. Miley…………. Ralph
………Coker ………. Bridge
……… Cards … Walker

Morton came on for Ralph (with Bridge switching to LWB) and it immediately looked a lot better.

Does anyone have a list of the players that haven't made the team today? Obviously Taylor and Noor being 2 of them. Anyone else?

You mean starting XI or squad?

Morton changed the game in the 10 minutes he was on. A couple of lovely through balls.

Defence playing it around nicely at times and then losing the ball easily at other times. Gubbins seems to be the centre half that’s dropping into midfield and getting forward a lot.

Bridge has taken a while to get into the game but has had some good moments as has Walker (cool finish for the pen). Currie has been yelling at JB and Gus to get the ball in the box when they’re wide. Also lots of shouts of ‘forward’ when we break. Hope Ralph just has a knock and taken off as a precaution. Looks that way. Morton looking full of energy.

Think we still look a little short of something. Hopefully that’s just match practice and this was a step closer.

First twenty minutes all our best moments came through Coker but once Morton came on we looked better and he was the standout for player.

Early on Crowther had a header looping into the keepers hands and Gus, getting into a central position, putting it wide after Coker’s cut back. The next time they combined for the goal with Gus forcing it home after Crowther cleverly looped it back into the danger area.

After Ralph went off - presumably precautionary - Morton made an immediate impact threading in Walker who was nudged and the ref awarded a spot kick. Walker - on spot kick duties despite Bridge playing - took it well finding the corner.

Second half was disrupted by subs. I felt sorry for Waldron who had little service and a rotating cast around him. Wood had a couple of chances - usually carved out by Morton - but delayed shooting too long.

Beau MacDonald had his best showing for us and I thought Shobowale looked much better than he did at Wakering.
