What makes it all the better is it's such a great goal as well. Watching it again with the cross in mid-air there is no way he is favourite to score from such a wide angle. He manages to get such pace on the header though that the keeper can't get across in time. Great great header. BBBC is back!!

Though if that was our keeper he'd be getting absolutely slated on here!

Well done BBBC - just seen the goal on the Internet from 4,000 miles away and loved it.

Had to laugh at Barnablue though who gave me negative reputation in May and said, and I quote

"He's a crap player. I hope I never see him in a Southend shirt again."

Let's use him carefully though. 18 months out is a long time and we cant expect him to play twice a week. Same with Eastwood.

It was a great moment, but lets not get carried away. He was 8 yards out at best, even a header from outside of the box would be miraculous, 4000 miles is an exaggeration and a half!

If ever they wanted to make a soap football programme they would look no further than Southend. Crippled by debt, Chairman hated by most, regular season ticket to the High Court, transfer embargo, half the team injured, playing a team that has won all 3 away league games, one goal down and then they throw on a man who has been out injured for a year and a half and an old flame who has come back to his original love and they both do the business late in the game to send the home fans away happy. You just couldn't make it up! That's why we all love the mighty Blues.

All that and more.

And he has come through at just the right time - he doesn't need to spend so much time on his allotment now it is Autumn - so come on Barry, put down the rake and get back to training.

Barry was sitting with the fans at the game away at Oxford - pleasant chap as well. Ever so pleased for him.
He puts the "gentle" and "man" in gentleman.

If I gave you neg.rep.as you say, then it would have been in return for yours.Let me make it quite clear I'm glad he's returned and it was a superb goal. The jury is still out on how many games he'll be able to play for us this season, though.

Really nice of BBBC to dedicate the goal to Ben Clarkson - a lot of credit must go to him :Worthy:

Yes, I agree, I have been very critical of the current fitness set up at Southend, but hearing this direct from someone who has direct day to day dealings with and whose career has been 'saved' by Ben Clarkson has made me realise that I was wrong in my previous criticism for which I unreservedly apolgise.

I still stand by my comment that the fitness team are as important to this club as a 20 goal a season forward though, and long may they keep the squad as fit as possible to enable PS to have a full squad available for selection.

Barnablue - I see that you have posted on this thread, but I have no idea what you said because after having read such a vitriolic and unwarranted comment about our previous season's leading scorer and also your stating that you are hoping that you never see him in a Southend shirt again I found the 'Add To Ignore List'.

Thank you to whoever added that feature to SZ!!

Barna loves making those comments. In one thread where I said that I hoped Barry played again, Barna neg repped me to say that he hoped not. No need for that sort of sentiment at all when we're talking about a guy's career.

There's an article on Barry Corr in today's Football League Paper, accompanied by two photos by Dave Scriven of him scoring last weekend, which makes it look like Roots Hall was empty - I can see five fans and a paramedic in a sea of empty seats! Maybe Dave could find a better angle to take photos from?

CORR ROARS BACK AFTER 17 MONTHS

Barry Corr thought his time in the game was up but after netting on his return from 17 months of injury, the Southend striker is more determined than ever to prove himself wrong. Corr's last outing in a Shrimpers shirt was in April 2011, a game he also scored in, before a series of setbacks threatened his career.

Firstly it was an inflamed tendon in his knee that became complicated by excess fluid - more than 20 procedures were needed during a six-month ordeal. Then, just when there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel, the 27-year-old was crocked with a grade one tear in his groin in pre-season. And it was the latest injury woe that put things into perspective for Corr, with his goal against former club Exeter last Saturday far less important than actually hearing the Roots Hall roar again.

"It's been such a frustrating time wondering if I would ever get to this point, but I've worked hard with the physio and in the gym," said Corr. "If anything, the groin injury at the start of the season was more frustrating than the knee injury. For a long-term lay-off you can get your head around it, but it was only a grade one tear, and it took me six weeks to get over it given my lack of match fitness. It was such a long time to be out. At the start of the week I wasn't even sure if I would be on the bench. I was taking training quite easy and it was just a relief to be a sub in the end. To actually play was a bit of a surprise. Just to be back was special, scoring against my old club didn't really mean as much as it might have done if I'd been back and playing regularly. I was just happy to have made a difference and helped the team out from being 1-0 down.

"Even though I only made the bench I was so nervous in the build-up to the game. I was struggling to get my breakfast down. The fans gave me such a great reception which was nice, and I was just desperate to get out on the pitch. I've missed it so much, it's felt like I've not been part of it because you miss all the banter in the changing room. You miss that nervousness, that feeling of adrenaline before a big game. I just love playing football and to be back playing is all I wanted."

Corr's return will be like a new signing to Southend boss Paul Sturrock, and with the Essex club under a transfer embargo it couldn't have been better timed. Sturrock was struggling to put a team out against the Grecians last weekend but with Corr's track record he needn't worry. The Irish-born forward fired 21 goals in his first season at the club and he's vowed to recapture that kind of form.

"It was a great first season that I was desperate to build on," added Corr, who could only watch last season as Southend crashed out in the League Two play-off semi-finals. "That was supposed to be a springboard for me to push on. I would have loved to be involved in the promotion push last season, but that's the plan this season. Realistically we were never going to be challenging in my first season. The manager had to bring in a number of new faces at the start and virtually rebuild. But last year we had a chance. Now we do again and I want to be a part of it."

:nope: Actually,it was in return for a neg. rep comment of your own.Two can play at that game.

I agree it can be a useful facility at times.:raspberry:
(which is perhaps more than can be said for a "striker" who gets himself sent off, on only his second substitute appearance of the season, after a 17 month layoff from injury).

There's that "C" word again, hope he won't be so annoyed about it as when Chris used it!

Oh and agreed about photos, better angle definitely required!

Invest in BP.It's clear what happened from that.Great header but Corr was right when he said the keeper had obviously expected him to head it across the box rather than go for goal.

Barna, read my earlier post, the comment about the photos had nothing to do with the goal, but rather with what's in the background.

I didn't know anyone other than you 'played that game', I thought everyone else only gave neg rep because they didn't like what was posted on a thread. Thanks for putting me right

Well that just shows what a plum you really are if you just give neg rep to someone because they gave it to you. Neg rep is there to show disapproval to something you whole heartedly disagree with, not to use for tit for tat. Idoubt you have ever given positive rep because it's not in you to do so.
