He has only played 41 games in that time, and for large periods hasn't been fully fit.

Yes, it's a bit of a gamble, but I think with a full pre-season and fully fit he will score goals, not loads but will be good enough for us.

Ok so hes fully fit and fighting next season and plays 41 games, would you be happy with only 8 goals from what you could class as a starting forward?

Just out of interest, there seems to be a clear split between those that think Barney is the right one to keep and those that want Fred. How many goals has Fred scored in the last four years vs Barneys record.

For the record Im in camp get rid of them both

I can only assume that none of you have seen Barnard play this year?

David Crown is a proven goalscorer, should we give him a contract for next year?
In the 1971-72 season , the King Billy Best did not score for 9 games , before he started to hit the back of the net to help get Southend promoted .:happy::happy:

I really don't know and am willing to leave it to PB's judgement..........that's what he's paid for. If he comes up trumps next year everyone will be saying, what a brilliant idea to have kept him. If he doesn't perform better than he has this season, PB will get the brickbats.

 ... but when i spoke to him down the gym , and i asked him if he was going to sign permanently , he said he didn't know what was happening ... obviously he wasn't going to tell me anyway but he certainly sounded like hes was unsure ... if true , Give that man an Oscar !! :winking:

I agree, In Phil I trust.

That said I'd have personally kept Freddy ahead of Barney

Part of me appreciates Mr Martin trying to build back his fragile relationship with the fans with these signings, but this is déjà vu from 2 years ago when we re signed Fred. Hopefully this one works out. Technical ability will not mean too much at this level when we're playing on poor, soggy pitches against Bury in December. We surely need to be signing fit players, that can consistently play 40+ games a season
