I wonder who is quickest over 50 metres, Barney, Fred or BBBC?

This deal was probably done between Barnard and Ron Martin. I am sure Phil Brown would not have done this if he had 100% say in players signing matters. Just the sort of thing to give the manager an excuse to leave.

I think that would be highly unlikely.
I know most on here don't rate Barney anymore but I think with a good pre-season Phil Brown stylee and perhaps a change in our playing style - which despite a good defensive record most would say we did break down in front of goal.
He hasn't got pace, but he can hold the ball up niggle defenders whilst bringing others like Lenny, Hursty into play I think at 29 he could be more than good enough for League 2. It's not a case of him missing loads of chances in front of goal he hasn't had many chances with the high balls up the pitch. A creative/pacey midfielder/winger could make all the difference to the type of play Barney needs - he plays well with a pacey partner - no surprise with Barney & Loza we played Oxford off the park and ended our dire run of form.

I assume this means that Eastwood has gone. I think there's definitely room in the squad for one of them as an alternative to Corr's height and the pace of whichever young and hungry player we end up bringing in.

Put Lee Barnard (a pure finisher) in a system where we actually create goalscoring chances and he may still be able to score goals. He's certainly young enough.

Give him a full preseason under brown, playing him alongside BBBC or whoever else we may bring in, and lets see how he goes. When he was playing alongside Loza he was showing glimpses, think against Torquay where he was so unlucky not to score!

There is goals inside him, we just got to extract them! And, he runs around more than freddy does, closing down defenders

That was always what Barnard gave us as well as goals - incredible workrate defending from the front. Hopefully he has the hunger still to put that running in.

Phil doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would let that happen, everyone was excited when Barney came back it doesn't seem unreasonable that Phil took a chance on him and offered a contract to bring him in on loan.

Personally if Barnard works hard over the summer with brown I think he could be a good signing, end of the day we know he has the talent and it's been proven playing for us in the past I think one more season does no harm and is getting somebody in early rather then what we had under years of tilson waiting for the last minute.

The ability is there with him. A good idea IMO to have him sign up when we did. If he had a blinder it would have looked marvellous... I think he has still got it in the locker!

Is it me, or does Barnard seem to be rowing more with refs than he used to? I don't recall him arguing as much as he did in the small amount of time he was on the pitch this season, as he did when he was with us before.

Probably because he is frustrated at not producing the form he has previously...

I'm really not sure that Barnard now has what it takes. He joined on loan in a team that were on the crest of a wave/then a crest of a slump(Feb) and then a crest of a wave again. Surely that should have been enough of an incentive to really go for it? Admittedly against Oxford he looked a lot more like the business, but after that?

If we don't take a punt on him somoene else will.

I can't really believe those moanin.

We didn't score enough goals last year, and Barney is a goal scorer.

With a full preseason I think he will be a useful addition next year.

in tilson's defence the embargo was kept secret. hence why he was being told to say " no rush to find the right ones".
