The strip is so,so.Why the black armband ? Are SUFC going to the wall this season !! As for Martin Dawn as sponsor,I would be very surprised if any money has changed hands. Even if the stadium goes ahead,we've waited since 1999.The supporters have been taken for a ride in this time, thanks to RM,Gk et al. Going back to the strip, the new royal blue and white home shirt is acceptable, but why change both strips every season ? Change just one.

So the club can make money, its pretty normal these days.

Is there any chance the company who offered 50k are just sponsoring the home shirt? And MD have just made use of the vacant sponsor for the away kit? Could explain why away has been released before the home kit?

No its Martin Dawn.

I think that was suggested but the club decided to go with MD on both.

I'm slightly concerned/confused as to why MD is the sponsor if we were offered 50K by someone else.

Remember when we made up a kit manufacturer one year that was also our sponsor - Crevette Clothing Company!?

I dislike it a lot. Personally I don't like the yellow and black combination that we have had for the past 3 seasons, I think it's ugly. I'm also a bit funny about symmetry so for a kit to have one black armband and a logo that is off centre, drives me nuts! I'm not a fan of the logo, I actually liked the I&G one as it was relatively small.

So a big no from me, in my opinion.

I like it - but would prefer navy instead of black. The off-centreness looks decent to me.

Most people I've spoken to think it's a good design and that seems to be born out by the poll (at the moment anyhow). As for the sponsorship I suspect RM has found a way to make more out of the MD deal than he'd gain from a paying customer - tax breaks, offsetting profits. This might also be a way of pumping funds into the club that don't hamper us under the FPP rules (think Man City and Etihad).

Alternatively this is supposed to tie in with the stadium build getting under way and MD being plastered all over Southend will really boost his company's image.

Err I obviously missed it...but what happened to the home kit launch? We are going to play at home too...aren't we?

Also, I get irritated when clubs wear the away strip in games where the home kit does not clash. That is a relatively new thing and I do not get it.
We wore yellow and black stripes at Plainmoor when they wore yellow and white stripes. How does all-blue clash??

Why did Germany and Argentina both wear away strips for the World Cup Final?/

Maybe we don't need a home kit...nobody uses them these days :winking:

Its to promote the fact you have one, and sell more...

And Germany wore their home kit in the final?

So the same 500 that go to most away games...don't already know? Is there anybody who travels away that does not already know...today - what the away kit looks like? I don't think branding it on the FL Show at silly o'clocki n the morning sells Shrimpers away shirts in Taiwan. Who does not know what the shirt looks like BEFORE a ball is kicked. Everybody who may purchase has seen it and may take an early look. But we wore that God-awful striped thing all season long. Mostly for no reason.

In the old days. A team wore it's traditional colours unless there was a clash. I think Southend United only wore blue away from home when yellow and black really did clash. We wore yellow and black against teams in red.

Cos Phil likes us to look like his hull tigers away from home. That way if we're playing badly he has an excuse to sit the players down on the pitch and berate their performance.

Just knowing there is a kit is not the same as seeing the players in it regularly and identifying with it. If we only wore it once a season it wouldn't really feel like our kit.

People complain about a new kit every year, how much more so if we only wore it once or twice!

It allows us to sell more kits, then be able to justify a new one the next season.

Jam Man. You are correct in your answer. I just dislike seeing our club playing in an away strip when there is no need.

23 away games. Wear it 10 times? More than adequate.
