Uncannily similar to me. I was born in Grimsby but spent a big proportion of my upbringing in Northampton (the Kingsthorpe area). I went to university in Nottingham before getting a job in London, where I still live - so this is the closest I've been to Southend.
Like yourself, I support the Blues through my dad, who also grew up in Rayleigh.

Born in DIngwall, county town of Ross & Cromarty. Lived in Sunderland for a year, Islington for a couple of years, Basildon for 38 years (you get less for multiple murder) and now happily ensconced in the wonders of Southchurch Village.
Southend were simply the local league club when I first took a real interest in football, so I supported them, much to my old man's annoyance. The fact that I'd want (and still do want) Sunderland to beat any other team except Southend made no difference to him. The miserable git.

Roots Hall My place Of Worship!!!!!!!
Born at Rochford hospital,took to Roots Hall age 2(3rd generation shrimper)
I lived in various locations around Southend until the age of 8,spent my teenage years in Shoebury until the age of 19,then moved out.
I know live with my gf and 3yr old girl(a future 4th generation shrimper)in Southend.
Ive had various opportunities for work and education outside Southend,
however never took them up if it meant not going to Roots Hall on a Saturday and watching my beloved SUFC that would be for me like a christian not going to church on a sunday ''SOUTHEND TIL I DIE"

Some evidence of C'mon you Shrimpers point ...Leyton was the original HQ of Essex cricket team. There used to be (and for all I know still is ) a South-West Essex Technical college in Walthamstow (My Dad went there)

Whilst at Southampton Uni my Mum and Dad moved to Teesside but I managed to track them down and have lived up here ever since (though not still with M&D I hasten to add)
Still dream of coming back to Southend area even if I have to wait until I retire!
