Born in Southend (third generation Shrimper) opposite the Stadium two days before the Blues won a 4th round cup tie. Lived in Maldon Road Southend, Christchurch Road Southchurch, West Road Shoebury, Tunbridge Road Southend, Christchurch Road (again) Southchurch, Ennismore Gardens Prittlewell, by which time I was 23 years old and shrimper to the bone.

Moved to Leicester for 20 years (I know don't rub it in) but never lost my Shrimperness (saw every away game one season travelling from Leicester)

Then moved to West Sussex for four years and then . . . . .

back to Essex, Hullbridge (would have prefered Southend but compromised with the wife).

My son DtS is fourth generation shrimper,

his daughter is fifth generation shrimper (although she does realise yet at 3 months but she was a Southend Bib last time I saw her).

All in all "We're Shrimpers till we Die!"

DoDtS

I was actually born and raised in columbo sri lanka moved to britain in 82 originally hampshire but dad got home sick and because his work had left sri lanka we couldnt go back there so dad chose bradford instead me me mum dad and sister grow up happily in bradford until my sister got bitten by a pet monkey and had to go to the famous hand hospital at broomfield she was in there 6 months so in mum and dad and I moved to braintree were dad got te contract for painting the white lines in all the new roads that were being built with all the new roads that were going up at that time, we then spent about 3 years in colchester were dad got the contract to plant all the trees around colchester car auctions we lived in colchester actually until 95 mum was now working at the local comprehensive as a dinner lady and ended running off with the caretacker, my dad found out one morning when he popped back home to find my mum being rammed by the school caretacker, and that was the reason we moved to southend the fact that my old man hated colchester from that point on so much he wanted to move to an area and a place that would share his thoughts too and that is why we moved to southend and started supporting southend I have now had a southend crest tattooed over my colchester crest

i assume from your post the caretaker was a scummer aswell, dont supose the inbred was there sat;)

Born in Rochford, grew up in the south of France near Biarritz, moved back to Southend aged 8 until I left for uni (Gloucester/Cheltenham) at 18 which is where I am now. Just got to decide whether to move back to Southend or not.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, moved to Southend when I was 5 in '62 (Dad was from Ilford/Seven Kings area), first games at Roots Hall when I was 10, have lived in Leicester, Oxford, Abingdon, Newbold-on-Stour and now Aultbea, Wester Ross. Would have been much better for everyone if my dad had moved us to Liverpool or near Arsenal but once the team is in your blood......

Born in Bury St Edmunds.

Moved to Somerset Avn in Rochford when i was 6 months old. Lived in Rochford until the age of 29

Moved in to Southend for 3 years

Moved to Bungay (Suffolk) when I was 32

Moved from Bungay to Strichen when I was 35 until now

Born in Rochford Hospital, lived for the first year of my life in Leigh-On-Sea before moving to Shoeburyness where I was brought up. After leaving home I went back to Leigh, then Southend (right by where the old Greyhound Stadium used to be) before buying my first house in Westborough Road, Westcliff. Stumbling distance from the Spread Eagle and my missus could hear the cheers of the Roots Hall crowd from our garden. Now living about as far away from Roots Hall as possible in Brisbane, Australia. Miss the old place like crazy but do love the lifestyle over here. In all honesty I don't see this as a permenant move as I am too much of a Southender at heart. However I'm happy to enjoy the experience for maybe 5 years before heading home.

Just got to decide whether to move back to Southend or not.

Was never even a consideration for me, not moving back after Uni. I loved Leeds and had an amazing time there but I missed Southend and the lads and my family too much. I am southend and essex through and through and am proud of that whatever anyone may think of the place. Yes it is not everyones cup of tea, we have a lot of chavs, but everywhere has its downsides and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Born in Basildon, moved to Suffolk near Bury St Edmunds when I was 4. Lived there since then apart from 2 years in Norwich and 8 months (or it will be) in Canada for uni. So I have never lived in Southend and only lived in Basildon for the first 4 years of my life.

My dad was born in London and grew up around Gidea Park and moved down this way in the early 60s. My mum was born in the area and apart from a stay in Wiltshire when she was young has lived round here all her life.

I was born at Rochford Hospital in 1979, spent the first few months of my life in a tiny flat in Station Road - Westcliff with my parents and brother Rich. Moved to the Kursaal estate then Richmond Street - Southchurch, Lovelace Gardens - Southchurch, Barnstaple Road - Thorpe Bay with my parents and since moving out I've lived at Elmer Avenue - Central Southend, Central Avenue - Southchurch, Heygate Avenue - Central Southend, Warrior Square - Central Southend, Gordon Road - Central Southend and now ensconced in Surbiton Road - Soutchurch.

Can't see myself moving away for a while yet!

Similar to DoDtS, I'm a 3rd generation Southend supporter, born just a few roads away from Roots Hall, in Wenham Drive, Westcliff. Lived there till I was 5, then moved to Eastwood till I was 15, then Hadleigh. My first "own home" was in Shoebury and I've now lived in Benfleet for nearly 17 years. So apart from one 6 month spell during the Hadleigh time, when I lived in Norwich, yes, my entire life has been spent in and around the Southend District. My parents' families both also came from the Southend area.

I've never lived anywhere near Southend, I've actually only lived in three places in my life. I was born in Denver, lived in the metropolitan area of the city while growing up, then went to the University of Colorado in Boulder, which is just outside of the metro area. The only other place I've lived is Lancaster, and that was for just under 6 months while studying abroad. Now I'm back in Denver, but possibly only a few months away from moving to Chicago or Houston, even though I'd really like to move to England (preferably Essex) for a couple of years.

Never lived in Essex - born in Barking, lived most of my life in Romford. Moved to Hackney when I was mid 20's, and then to MK in my mid 30's.

None of my family support the mighty blues - in fact my family are a hotch-potch of all manner of teams - Dad was Arsenal, brother is Borient, nephews are Tottenham / Newcastle (why I have no idea).

Barking is classed as essex!

Born in Rochford, moved to Southchurch Rd area when I was 1. Lived there till I was 22 then moved to wakering for 6 months before moving back. Moved to Great baddow, Chelmsford and Mundon (the dark years) with my 1st wife then moved to Woodgrange. Left the missis (yipeee), moved to nursing accomodation in Balmoral Rd, then the flats above the laundrettes in prince avenue and finally to Ronald Park Avenue

Born at Rochford Hosptial... a few years living in Central Avenue, Southend before moving to Great Wakering. Lived there until I was 18 before departing to Cambridge to study (for 4 years). I then moved to Chelmsford, where I work, before heading out to the country again 18 months ago to live in Great Waltham.

Born at Rochford hospital and spent my first 2 years in Shoebury. Moved to Mayfield Ave, just behind Southend High for Boys in '83 and stayed there for 18 years. Attended Earls Hall School and indeed played in the school team with Sir Adam. Moved to Leigh in 2001, but then moved out with the missus and now live in the leafy suburb that is Southchurch Village. So yes, born and bred as were my dad and grandad.

Another one out of Rochford hospital. Early childhood in Chalkwell. My dad professed to being a Tottenham supporter although I never really knew what that meant for him and sadly never ever asked him if he had ever been to a match. I proudly persuaded him to come with me to Roots Hall and we were in the East Stand to watch a really dreary 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace........at least I thought it was Palace, but records prove my memory wrong. Perhaps I dreamt it all? Well, dream or reality, the experience was never repeated.
Fell in love at nine years of age and although there are times when the passion has cooled, it has never left and on the, sadly, few times I now manage to enter Roots Hall, that strange feeling in the pit of the stomach returns...........it's like the first time again!
Moved to Thorpe Bay for four years and then, at fifteen, arrived in my preferred Leigh-on-Sea. Left ten years later to do late studies in Brighton. Following four years at the seaside I ended up in mid-Kent .......short residences in Hartley, Goudhurst and Tenterden before settling in St Michaels (Tenterden).........not for long.......four years later, moved back into Tenterden proper. Stayed there, happily, for about eight years before the mid-life crisis struck. Change of job change of country.
Had tried to pass on my passion for the Blues to my wife......perhaps a home Cup-tie against Dover wasn't the best introduction. The second and last match she witnessed was our home Cup match against Liverpool and after experiencing the mass rush and crush of the open south bank I think that she decided it wasn't worth risking her life again. My daughter's had two interesting an contrasting matches her first being our New Years Day clash against WBA.......ominously, she sat firmly seated even when JCR scored his memorable pair. She was there again to observe different fortunes in our seasons opening match against Orient with that nice man Mr Thornton.
Sadly, I can't see any evidence that she has got the bug and she has that same, uncomprehending look of surprise and concern as her mother, when they witness me celebrating a goal in front of the computer.
Arrived in south-west France and spent the first two years in Mazamet (Tarn). Moved to Toulouse where we stayed for seven years before my wife's job obliged us to up sticks again, to the other end of the Hautes-Garonne and St Gaudens. Ironic, really, that my user name came from the, short-lived, Yogi Bear Blues mascot and that I now find myself resident in a town whose rugby football side are the 'Bears' and the real bears are not far away, in the mountains. Lived in the west of the town before crossing to the east and settling into the house we now reside.
I get the feeling it ain't finished yet......my wife doesn't like the insular attitude of the local 'Comminge' people.......so we could well be on the move again, when she retires.
Reflecting on what's written above, I suppose I could well fit into the none to endearing description of what our opponents would call a 'traveller' although I have to say that I'm not one for caravans nor mobile homes!
I suppose our future direction may well depend on our daughter.........NOW, THAT'S AN INTERESTING THOUGHT!!!? What if she could, eventually settle down with a nice Southend boy?......................perhaps that's something to work on.
