Post-Match Thread and Ratings Aldershot 0-0 Southend Utd

A game we apart from a couple of minutes we totally dominated, yet our slow build up and fear of taking a shot was evident as usual.I can't understand why Maher can't remember his playing days and how the likes of Eastwood and Grey were played . Especially frustrated by the ten back defending corners when leaving someone like Pepple on the halfway line would cause problems with a quick clearance

Please please find a better commentating partnership Bbc Essex?
Oh to have Nick Alliker, Paul Clark/Glen Pennyfather every match?
Stuart Smith last night would rather waffle on about the number 10 bus that has just gone by and April Smith is just not right for me, has she swallowed the coaching manual…..sorry but totally detracts from the match day experience listening to these two.

We moved the ball a lot quicker with Bridge and Wes last season down that right side. The midfield are all too similar. Kev seems to suggest he wants another striker but we need different options in the midfield. Moncur was the hope but hasnt done much to justify his reputation.

Agree with most of that but crowds will drop next season if this season continues to see us scoring very little and finishing mid table.

What makes you think that the purse strings will be opened next year.
What makes you so sure crowds will drop? Few signings and a good marketing campaign in pre season/some ground improvements and we will be fine.
If fans are that ****ing fickle do we even want them?

We don't have a gold, silver and bronze rating for fans. As much as many of us hard core fans would like to think we are the elite crew, the fairweather element is essential. Not everyone becomes a committed Blue after one game. Some need to be wooed by the experience. It is also not unreasonable for some to want to be entertained by a business that is entertainment.

2 points dropped, why don’t we shoot from edge of the box? Mr Husin please note at least Coker tried.

There is not much to add to the reporting, no one had a poor game and no one a star performance. Taylor, Gus, Coker and Bim stood out as a step above the others. Bonne was okay but lacks that razor sharp that only comes with games and goals. JB has lost his mojo and seemed reluctant to take on his marker, is he worried too much about losing possession? And does the same apply across the midfield? Noor works, and runs AND needs to sharpen his passing AND take the shots when space opens, again is it worry? Best I have seen of Crowther and Gubbins, Faultless kicking by Collin.
Subs changed game and gave Shots their best 10 minutes before our subs cancelled them.
Ground is a dump, and the pitch black access route a real danger/ risk, especially for mobility challenged.
Mr Widdrington showed class by clapping our fans.
I would have taken a point before kick off and certainly after 2 minutes : so stay positive.
Ref was average to poor, which is good for this league.

No its not time for a change. Rather than pay off Maher, Currie and the rest. Spend the money on a proper number 9.

The same people who want Maher out have wanted every manger out. A revolving door of mangers players cost the club a fortune they couldn't afford. Thats why we ended up in the NL in the first place. Thats why COSU have spent £3.5m so far just to keep us afloat and a clean sheet at Aldershot on Wednesday night.

The real fans amongst us know this season is all about levelling out and having everything in place for a real go next year.......Others will drift back to their sofa and the PL.
Just can't agree with this.
The only time I've seen a striker/forward change a team from dire to remotely successful was collymore
He was a player who created opportunities and scores by himself.
This is incredibly rare.
Good forwards need opportunities and clear scoring opportunities (these are different).
We might be fortunate to create a couple of opps but I don't remember many or any team crafted clear scoring opportunities.
I haven't seen the data but from what I've seen and remember it's going to be very low.
Compare with a Barnet, York or Gateshead for example.
This football is as bad as Murphy's 532 only the ball stays on the ground a little more.
Collymore helped him but didn't save him.
Football was still dire

I get that we need the fairweather fan but we will have a much better shot at promotion next season. We will have a full pre season and will hopefully get our transfer business done early. Plus the ground will be in better shape, with a fanzone etc. (fingers crossed) ... so more attractive to the potential new fan than this season. So I'm struggling to see where Tommy thinks there'll be this big drop in crowds. Too many just see short term.

he only other thing I would add to where an instant improvemnet could be made, with the EXISTING squad, is from both sides with a cross comes in, we NEED the far psot attacked.

Had we done that last night, we'd have been 1 up at HT and won 2-0, without anything else changing.

Especially at this level, back post defenders seem to go to sleep, don't ask me why, and with someone detailed to watch the line for offside, but run directly for the back post our goal tally would mount without a doubt.

Both chances last night went across the goal and harmlessly out for a goal kick with their defence breathing a sigh of relief.

I would've hought that any punter who hasn't bought a season card would be tempted to stay away for a bit- until Xmas at least!

Was out last night so didn't see or hear the game. However reading this thread does actually give me some positivity. Better to read how we totally dominated a side away from home & kept a third clean sheet in a row, than the previous few games where we were usually the ones being dominated & usually losing as well. Going by the last 3 games it sounds like we're heading in the right direction. First and foremost we had to stop being so easy to score against, secondly we had to start dominating possession & creating chances or at least get into positions to create chances. It appears those issues have been addressed. Yes it sounds like we were toothless last night and that is the next problem to deal with. But it feels like its starting to come together.

''SHE'S ONE OF OUR OWN, SHE'S ONE OF OUR OWN, APRIL SMITH, SHE'S ONE OF OUR OWN''
Or you could have Victoria Polley, who's a Col U fan.

That reminds me of Paul Sturrock. Whenever we lost a few games he changed tack to make us difficult to beat, even if that was at the expense of our attacking threat. I guess the idea was to rebuild confidence. Once that had worked he then worked on the attack.

It seemed to work for him...
