A gloating Wolves fan

We must thank the Dingles, however, for giving us one the best Friday nights at the Hall ever. Their mature reaction to the inevitable defeat that sent us up and kept them down in Division 4 has given us many a chortle throughout the years.

Managed by someone who has the worst record in top flight football in Western European football history, let alone Premier****. And who also has the longest losing run of any manager in English football this century.

And yes, provided you don't take into account average attendances, trophies won, or tradition down the years, Wolves are a much bigger club than Charlton. By about 6 letters and around a dozen points on a Scrabble board

The future's bright. But it's not orange.

My God at last someone on here talking sense on this subject (probably me included). I agree entirly, without his very special goals I doubt whether we would have made it out of the 2nd div let alone div 1.As for him being gutted, I will just have to take your word for that as I have never talked or met the guy and my assumption of his feelings for us is based entirely on his work rate on the pitch. If a player strolls around not closing down the oppostion and waitng for things to happen I think its a safe bet that he's not just laid back but probably wishing he was some where else.

Since 1990....

Brett Angell was quality but would never score the kind of magic goals Freddy did.

Cant comment on the others as didnt see them.

As for strolling around the pitch not closing people down I wouldnt expect my striker to use up all his energy doing so and keep it for making runs on the attack.

He made no less effort the year before but as we were winning no one complained....

You having a laugh? Bret Angell & David Crown ? The only striker I've seen better than Freddy in my 30 years following the Blues is Stan!

IMHO Billy Best was technically superior in every department to Stan or Freddy. He could score goals with either foot and for such a small guy his heading ability was second to none. Richard Cadette could turn any number of deffenders inside out and he attacked the box when ever we were going forward. David Crown and Brett Angel were natural poachers who you could rely on to scored goals regually and although not as pretty to watch as Freddy.... if the chips were down and you were looking for someone to fight and chase your course, would be ahead of him any time in my book.

Probably get shot down with neg rep for this but here goes..... I really didn't rate Eastwoods off the ball running in fact it was almost nieve. With the ball at his feet and 25 yards out he was lethal, especally against a deffence which backed off him at their peril. But you still had to find him, he didn't make intelligent runs to receive the ball. Once sides relized his game plan they closed him down quickly, stopped him shooting and he became ineffective.

Can see no reason why you'd get neg rep. Apart from that thing with the arthritic stoat. Anyway, there were plenty of times where Freddy appeared to play more as an attacking midfielder than anything else during phases of the game.

It tended to be when we were struggling and, frustrated with the lack of service, he tracked back a bit more than he should've.

His positivies were and still are immeasurable in relation to the regeneration of the team but that doesn't make him exempt from good, constructive criticism.

No I think thats reasonable comment.

Think he did use to make himself available to get the ball to feet and did make a lot of runs, but got caught offside far too much. Think that was partly due to no one managing to pick a pass out as well.

Even with that he is definitely the most talented player flair wise Ive seen down there, and Id put only Collymore ahead.

As Ive said Brett Angell was superb but towards the end he went off the boil and was actually surprised Everton took him.

Billy Best was before my time so Ill have to take your word on his technical ability..

I also have been reading this forum briefly over the past few weeks to keep up to date with the Eastwood saga.

I wasn't going to register but after reading this I just had to say a few things.

Firstly I apologise for the starter of this thread's attitude - it did embarass me as a Wolves season ticket holder. This time last year we were completely 'in the s***' and finally we started to improve the reputation of our fans. Now after we've had a good season and have a bit of money to spend it seems some delusions of grandeur have returned. Not all Wolves fans have this mindset.

Also what's with the 'all Wolves fans are hooligans' stance which a lot of members here seem to have?..ok I understand if you've had a bad experience at Molineux and encountered a bunch of idiots. However that's a very, very small minority so please don't tar all fans with the same brush.

Lastly I'd like to say to those saying it's a shame to see Freddy end up at us etc...I think we look like an attractive proposition for any young player at the moment and Mick McCarthy is an excellent manager. Sure, he'll have to move but location isn't the only aspect to take into account.

the night wolves came down to the hall in the famous game in 1986 boy did we kick there a..s iwill never forget the charge through the car park at them, seeing them all on the floor fabulous, and then winning 1 -0 there in the mid 1990s being told not to tangle with their subway army.

problem is they think they are bigger than they are , teams around them have moved on they have not

I was down by the Dickens that night, there was a group of 30 lads who charged out of the pub at a large group of Wolves lads and loads of pint glasses were hurled. The only problem was there was at least a hundred of them. Everyone fled back into the pub and after several seconds the windows came in. Everyone was running around inside like headless chickens thinking they were going to get mullered. Wolves must thought the pub was full because they did the off. Five minutes later the same thing happened but the Wolves mob was a similar size to the Southend one. They were building the River Island shop at the time and the 5 minute off that ensued was the mentalist I've ever seen given the ready supply of ordnance that was available. Oddly nobody seemed to be hurt at the end and everyone scuttled off when the polis arrived

that was my younger brother's first ever match....he was 3 and I remember what happened in the car park like it was yesterday

very frightening stuff that was!

I never forget when I was 12 and having 5 bells knocked out of me by so called Wolves fans in the 80's while I waited at the bus stop for a bus home just past the spread eagle, the delight and satisfaction that those thugs got picking on a 12 yr old i will never forget and I wasnt the only southend fan to get a "shoeing" that evening. Now I see a Wolves fan bottled Dean Kiely from behind in a pub at the weekend. You can gloat all you like but you will never have my respect and I shall keep my feelings at that
