Agreed. Striker is where the need is most. We already have a top-class winger in Kightly who, assuming plays to form, is far superior to Holmes. In addition we have McLaughlin and Barrett, with Robinson and probably a couple of contracted CM who can player play on the wing if required.

I for one am happy we didnt get Holmes , he may be born and bred local ,but he as far as im concerned is and always has been a money hungry player ,goes where the monies best,no loyalty to any club but himself. Rather we played our own youths if the wingers we got cant perform or are injured .

Holmes is an example of some of the decent players being loaned out currently, they are not all learning to shavers. Over half of our leagues club have entered the loan market. ( 13 ) to bolster their squad, 10 of these have loaned in 2 or more from the upper echelons. For 3 clubs it looks like a key business plan with Bradford, Fleetwood and AFC Wimbledon loaning in FOUR. We have until the end of the month to potentially benefit

That pretty much describes every player in football and most employees anywhere - imagine putting your salary demands first - how awful. We should all work for love and not money.

You cant also not be a little in awe of the heady Business Park world that is Peterborough, way out in front with 15 signings, all carried out at a cracking pace. How Come? I thought it is all supposed to take time, dealing with agents etc?
Its 15 in and 15 out now as they up the anti on their famed business plan , using their millions from annual sales to buy in the next lot to rinse out and refresh. Hailed by sportswriters and analysts as by far the best business plan to have for lower league clubs, Im not so sure I would like it? You would hardly get to know or identify with a player for a start!
9 of the 15 they have brought in have been for Undisclosed fees, helped by selling on at least 3 for 7 figure sums, like Marriot to Derby. and others to Wigan, Sunderland, Preston and Ipswich
The 9 paid for and brought in come from all over the place like Ross County , Stevenage, Grimsby, Sheff Utd, Crawley, Lincoln, Dundee , Man City etc. A fair smattering from the lower leagues each year where they hope to capture their next £5m for the purchase of next years 20 players and so on.. They have collected fees on 10 of the 15 shipped out.
Their 3 loanees in include 2 from the Championship and one from the Premier league. Would it be incredibly exciting to be part of or completely annoying? We shall see how they go,but if nothing else they continue to be sharp at getting players in and benefiting the bank balance?

If I read this again slowly will I find any mention of Southend United and their quest for new players?

I don't think so ............. but it is still relevant because there is a contrast between the activities of Peterborough and Southend ......... and on a number of occasions people have posted how much they admire the approach taken by Peterborough.

As a fan I'd rather stick with Southend .............

Surely what's more amazing is that they've found 15 players who are willing to play for the 'lovely' Mr Evans!!

But what good is that approach doing P'boro? they are hardly a successful club and I guess are only a couple of poor seasons away from being in a very bad place financially.

mind you, I guess that's not so different to us.....

Peterborough are not profit making as a club - their losses were less than ours in the last publicly available accounts but still heavy losses. They have not turned a profit since 2013/14. They are hardly more successful than us on the pitch. It might be a model that appears exciting from the outside but it seems neither financially nor performance-wise especially effective.

I would suggest these undisclosed fees they pay for lower league players must be quite large.

Missed out on Eoin Doyle and Stephen Humphrys according to CP.

Ngoy also a no at the moment but the club are hoping to change that.

Not too fussed about Doyle as I think he's a similar type of striker to Hopper and would've been a long shot given his mostly northern connections. Humphrys hasn't done much in his League One loan spells, though I see his scored on his Scunny debut at the weekend. A season-long loan for Ngoy would be my preference if we can persuade him/Stoke as he sounds like he plays a bit more direct and in behind defenders.
