Sounds promising to me.

Who was it that was constantly crying tears about having a tall centre back??

he is 6FT 5ins.... is that tall enough for you?.... or do you think Phil should have been looking into the NBA instead?

Pretty sure he was on loan at Port Vale last year. They were impressed with him but he picked up a couple of injuries and had to return to Crystal Palace. If he can keep fit he's the tall CB we've been missing. Wiki has him at 6ft 5 but he does like a yellow card or two as well!!

Don't quote me on this, but I thought I read somewhere on SZ, that we can, but only if they are a free agent? (I may be wrong?)

However, you must wonder what quality they would be, considering if they couldn't even get snapped up on a free transfer & being without a club when the transfer window was open... how good they really are.

Unattached players can sign for clubs outside of the transfer window.

I was reading an article about Zak Whitbread earlier as he's still without a club [who I rate]. He went from playing Premier League football with Norwich to being without a club. He said clubs offer free agents peanuts because they have the leverage, and he could have earned more money going to work with his mate, tiling... Eventually he signed for Shrewsbury.

If that's what it's really like for players... Maybe they have to run the risk of holding out for a decent offer.

I'll take that, a bit slow but superb in the air, did decently at Vale last season. Shame we couldn't get Reece Burke who I understand was a preferred choice but this isn't a bad alternative.

Ryan Inniss. Happy with that. Was rated highly by Vale fans but had fitness problems by all accounts. When CP said he hadn't heard of him was worried but will take that. Get some more in now!

Keep discussions to transfers. This evening is a pain in the behind enough without off topic bickering.

Thank you.

Appiah at Palace not mentioned, hope we'd be sniffing there. I see Oldham Athletic took a chance on Freddie Lapado, @ 6ft 2" he'd have been on my list especially with having a foil like Cox to learn from. Has had some misses and scored lots at Non league level. It will be interesting to see how he fares in L1.

Of the 8 signings so far JM, fair comment, no arguements with that, so here goes, for what really makes me nervous (just my opinion and God I hope I'm wrong!)

Cox and Ferdinand are my standouts. B+

Jason Demetriou - good and solid improvement B

Oxley, a big act to follow, so going to be difficult, I hope he comes through and shines, but could do better C

Sokolik jury out after his injury affected stay ay Yeovil, once again a gamble. C

Adam King looked poor last night against weaker opposition. For me not an improvemnet on who we are waiting to return. C-

McGlashen, I know a few Gills supporters all were glad to see him go and if asked who they would rather have out of him or Miles Weston they all went for Weston!!! Definitely not an patch on Worrall either D

Niler Ranger - Great 27 minutes, the 28th he spent getting off the pitch. But oh what gamble. Let alone his inactivity, Injury on injury and not available. Won't be match fit for at least another 2 1/2 months. our season will have taken shape by then. too early to mark.

So of the 8 signings only 3 I am really feeling positive about too many doubts on the rest. compared to the players who have left leaving big holes in key places on the pitch. That is why tonight is so crucial and if we get it wrong we re in big trouble.

I feared the worst when Chris P said he'd never heard of the player, but could be a good signing! 6 foot 5, just what we need. 1/2 more please

Barry Corr was injury prone before he joined us if I remember rightly, his first season was a pretty good one! At 6 foot 5 he should be very dominant in the air. Vale fans on Twitter seem to rate him!
