3 games is very patient!

I agree! Sixteen points from 22 games is horrendous & when that becomes 16pts from 25 I'm sure Ron will pull the trigger. I can see Brown getting a maximum of these three games - if we lose at Bolton & Scunthorpe then Millwall could be a very hostile game indeed (and the timing of Millwall "fans" visit will be far from ideal!).

Have to chuckle! This thread is 140 pages long and what do we end up with. Pretty much naff all!! It's going to be a long season.

Maybe the Iorfa deal not happening had some influence on what we could offer.

Don't see why that would matter.

We had the Hayden deal which would have given us a fair whack to use if needed. Not to mention that I think we came to an agreement with Huddersfield over Jack Payne so could have received some money from that already.

Imagine those have (over and above what's needed to stem losses) gone into the Cox and Ferdinand wages.

It does sum up how popular PB is as a manager and person. It appears no one wants to play for him but no doubt he'll pass the buck and lay the blame elsewhere. All these players can't be wrong though !

It really has got me wondering. There's more to this than meets the eye. I've watched similar-sized (if not smaller) clubs than ours in L1 make some very good signings this summer, and some of them make several today. With the amount of irons he supposedly had in the fire, how have we done so badly in the last few days of the window? It's not just budgets and "missing targets". I don't think players want to play for him.

Random rumours going around on twitter that MK Dons are the other club in for Simpson and a deal is to be done.

The MK Dons rumour is tripe. It came from the same guy who stated that Coker & Leonard were at Reading undergoing medicals this afternoon. He's been posting fabricated stories all day. Simpson is still an Orient player until January.

The club have really shot themselves in the foot here. Letting Brown come out with comments that stated if we don't sign anyone come this evening we will be in for a tough time this season. How on earth does that make the fans and the current players feel? Your just creating anamosity, which was already apparent in the stands anyway. Why not say, 'if we sign a few then great but my current players can offer a lot and we have players coming back too'. Even if you don't really think it, you have to be seen to be positive as the manager. The players and fans alike will feel so deflated at this. Cox upon signing said, 'the club will add some more players'. Well the atmosphere will definitely be great at Roots hall now! I just don't get how you can go from, tabling money for Simpson and the 'goalscoring league 1 midfielder', to signing sod all apart from a youth CB. Very disconcerting in my opinion that only creates a negative vibe.

PB himself said he worked to the bottom of the list. His quote. And I'll admit I don't like him, his man management, his ego or his limited football brain. It was said that Lincoln rejected him before he came to us and quite truthfully we have PB, Coughlan and Horton and I really don't know what they do. The football is utter garbage, the players look disinterested and also seem unfit. Compare that to Fleetwood who looked sharp and buzzing and had a manager who not only cared but whose job depends on the results. Quite truthfully the sooner he goes the better.

I can't deny that the performances have been poor this season but that is what happens when you field a weaker team than when you were fielding in the league below. That is partly down to injuries to key players but largely down to the lack of necessary investment to be genuinely competitive at this level. You can't expect to replace the quality of Bentley, Payne, Corr and Worrall with Oxley, Bridge, Mooney and O'Neill (as we did on Saturday) and be anything other than weaker for it - especially against tougher opposition than the former faced in L2. PB knows that, we know that, the senior players know that.

As I said in my post earlier in the week sacking PB is not going to resolve that. He is probably getting the best out of the players available to him at the moment. The problem is that their best is nowhere near good enough to be challenging in L1 (or imo at the top of L2). If the injury list relents things will improve rapidly I'm sure - but only in so much that we can retain our current L1 status. Simpson, O'Shea and Grimmer would have made things interesting.

I just wondered if Ferdinand was the last piece of significant backing Ron was prepared to give, if (big if) he's already thinking about Brown's tenure. He's a fairly solid signing for any manager in league one I reckon.
