So when does Robinson sign? Was clearly on standby in case we didn't get Simpson in (can't really blame Brown if Orient seriously wanted 300k for him, a bit annoyed he didn't have anyone else to go to when that clearly wasn't happening though), so he should be signing tomorrow right?
Simpson scored 25 goals last season. I would be exceptionally disappointed if we sold a player like him for 100k...

We have bought quality not quantity.
I don't think we've brought in either. We've brought in enough defensive quality but haven't in other areas. McGlashan is one of only 2 wingers and hasn't displayed any quality so far leaving that position very weak despite McLaughlin's impressive start. King, our only central midfield addition isn't what you'd call quality. It looks as though he could be a decent player but has looked quite out of his depth so far. With doubts over how much injury prone Timlin and Wordsworth will feature that leaves us with Leonard being the only real quality we have in the middle (even he hasn't started particularly well). Atkinson works hard but isn't really quality and Bridge has potential but is untested at this level. Ranger looked quality in the 20 minutes he played but is now out for months and may not even reach double figures for appearances so he seems irrelevant at the moment. Cox is quality but needs quality alongside him to thrive (Ranger). Him and Mooney are too similar and slow to be an effective partnership leaving us with neither quality or quantity up front.

Phew, 143 pages, 2000 plus posts and now the window is shut. What next' I wonder for this thread, Theo maybe as a trialist turned signing? I'm not even sure if that is allowable, we shall see.

u make some good points, however, he is clearly not getting the best out of the players. The likes of Barrett, Thompson, Coker, Leonard, McLaughlin, Cox to name a few are good enough to compete in league one. But something happened after Christmas, team morale, performance levels etc dipped dramatically. Changing the manager may not work, but I'd prefer to give it a go than sit and watch the dross we've had to endure this year. Something is not right and it needs to be resolved. PB constantly blaming everyone other than himself and often so publically can not be a positive. It's time to go Brown

Agree with all bar the bit about Barrett and Thompson. Neither are good enough for this division.

IF......

Oxley grows in confidence and proves to us there is a good keeper in there.
Ferdinand and Innis can strike up a good playing relationship in central-defense.
Wordsworth and Timlin can make a rapid return and avoid future injuries.
McLaughlin can maintain his goalscoring start to the season.
McGlashan can show more consistent quality in his game.
Leonard and Coker can restore and maintain the best qualities they have shown.
Ranger gets over his injury, keeps his nose clean and manages a series of games.
Mooney, following Tuesday, keeps on-side..........and scores occasionally
Robinson, as 25th preference striker, signs and provides some pace up front.
We select to play football, on the ground, rather than hoofing.
We avoid injuries and suspensions.

......WE'LL PROBABLY BE OK!

I think £300k is a fair price for a key player and if we only wanted to pay £100k then it's shame on us for being so stupid.

If I was Theo, I'd be looking for another club after the clear disregard from Brown for his services and a part of me hopes he does. The other hopes he signs of course, but at this rate we'll be lucky to sign Sanchez Watt.

Looking at the players without a contract again on transfermarkt, Luciano Beechio, Dean Hammond, Ishmael Miller and Jay Tabb are some names that stand out. At a push Darren Ambrose, Chris Hackett and Nathan Tyson... And of course former players which we love to be linked to Kane Ferdinand and Ryan Hall are both free agents too.

Naming all these players and I don't have confidences we'll sign anyone...

It really has got me wondering. There's more to this than meets the eye. I've watched similar-sized (if not smaller) clubs than ours in L1 make some very good signings this summer, and some of them make several today. With the amount of irons he supposedly had in the fire, how have we done so badly in the last few days of the window? It's not just budgets and "missing targets". I don't think players want to play for him.

This is pretty baseless. We've signed nine players, including some real quality. I'm sure we all hoped we'd sign more yesterday but I suspect a lot of the problem is Premier League clubs wanting to keep their youngsters around more and other clubs wanting to carry bigger squads than normal because of the lack of emergency loans. I think it'll take a couple of years for the system to shake out and clubs to work out how many players they want to carry.

We can still sign free agents and when Timlin and Wordsworth are fit there's not many positions we're crying out for more players. One striker, maybe a winger. Listen to some on here and you'd believe that we're short of six or seven players.

Edit - we've a 23 man squad now with cover in every position. More cover in some places that others admittedly. A loan midfielder for a month would have been ideal but that isn't allowed in the new rules, and a striker which we will no doubt now pick up from one of the dozens of free agent strikers out there.

Add to that list Bobby Zamora who is still without a club - even at the age of 35 I'm sure he could do a job up front for us if he's prepared to step down to League 1

There's a lot on here about how Theo Robinson must feel...

How on earth would anyone know that? We're basing our assumptions entirely on our frustration that PB hasn't signed Simpson, or the fact that he had a 12 striker shopping list and they were all "out of stock".

Robinson is without a club. His agent must feel that this is the best offer he will get, otherwise he would be somewhere else.

He has (I believe - happy to be corrected) been training with us.

Is anyone naive enough to believe that Robinson was unaware that there were people ahead of him in the pecking order? That he would likely only get a contract in the event that none of the other options came off?

If he was bothered he would have disappeared ages ago!

These guys are pro footballers and have huge mental strength. I don't think he will be overly bothered... in fact, it may even fire him up to prove PB wrong.

So, if we offer him - and Watt - anything at all, let's not project our feelings on how they must feel. They are pro footballers without clubs, without offers. They may well be bloody grateful.

I guess it's all about opinions. Mine is that in terms of your list only Coker, Leonard and Cox have really demonstrated they are good enough for L1 on a consistent basis. Furthermore my assertion remains that last year for the first half of the season we were punching above our weight/riding the crest of the wave after promotion. The second half was actually a better barometer of where we actually are as a club. Those results and performances have continued into this season as our squad (not helped by injuries) is weaker. In modern day football it is not the manager who gets signings over the line - it is the money men. Just ask Tony Pulis this morning!

Have I missed something? Sanchez Watt? Can't be bothered to read 144 pages to find the answer but is he back on the radar or has his name just been thrown into the mix as he has a past with us?

Absolutely. Theo Robinson has been unemployed for four months. There's clearly 92 managers who haven't put him high on their list of transfer targets or else he'd have a club by now. He's hardly going to be upset if we now offer him a contract.

He and Theo Robinson were confirmed as being on trial with us last week
