What about permanent?

You think he actually thinks before he opens his mouth?:omg:

Surely he just sees a microphone and says the first thing that comes into his head. Good interviewers probably know by now that if they keep quiet he'll fill the void.

Too late for the benefit of the doubt presumably?

I've never criticised anyone for being honest but there are ways of saying things. Rather than "we're now at the bottom of the list", he could say that he is doing his best but it's really tough. I wouldn't criticise him for that - I am a realist and know that Southend is not a very attractive club. However, I will criticise him if he fails to do his main job of leading, inspiring and getting the best out of the players he has or is about to sign. Increasingly, his public utterances have had the opposite effect and there is no excuse for that.

A good manager in any type of job will know when to talk and when to keep quiet.

No good Brown having all the contacts if no one wants to sign

You mean other than Cox, Ferdinand, Demetriou, Oxley, McGlashan, Innis, Sokolik, Ranger....
At least 3-4 of those are more than decent.

Trouble is the market for forwards is horribly over inflated- everyone is looking to sign the same decent strikers that are in short supply (i.e. those who will get you goals). Yes you can pay way over the odds for 30 somethings that are past it- but otherwise you are always up against 5-6 clubs or more- and normally the biggest factor is £££ and a long contract. Not an area where we are best positioned to compete. At the moment other than up front we are pretty much sorted with Tims and Wordsworth about to come back. If we can pull 1 decent additional forward out of the bag things will look much better..

True, bit uncomfortable about the wing situation too though. McGlashan (average at best so far) and McLaughlin (injury prone) for a whole season with an out-of-position O'Neill and an inexperienced if promising Bridge as the only backup.

The three forwards we do have aren't bad to be fair. Cox is clearly class. Mooney is the most successful striker (permanent) signing Phil Brown has made here in terms of goal scored, and Ranger if he can stay focused and fit will be a game changer. Trouble is there's not enough of them and they never get the ball anyway.

I hate to say it, but Col Ewe have fell on their feet their with the Glen Kamara signing.

I'm not saying us, but he is easily Div 1 level.

I'm not convinced we are pretty much sorted - even PB suggested today was make or break for the season. We have a reasonable first 11 - but very short of cover. At the moment, no real back up at centre mid, only 2 real wide men and woefully short upfront. Any injuries or loss of form and we're in trouble.

But just as important I think is a positive deadline day was needed to turn around the current doom and gloom. If we go one down in next game at the Hall it's not going to be pretty!

You're wasting your breath I'm afraid.

Suggests Simpson likely has something lined up elsewhere but it could fall through? Swindon were said to be in for him, as well as another unnamed side (Sheff U maybe? Or a lower Championship side?) Nobody likely to become surplus to requirements at Swindon that I would take (unless they decided to move on Obika, unlikely), wonder who the other club could be and if there could be a knock-on from that.

Harry kyp and Demetriou can both play as wide men.

With tonight's signing I would expect to see more 5-3-2 and less wingers this season.

If INNIS is it, then Phils " today is massive for the club" or we are in trouble statement, could mean just what he said for a change we are in trouble?
