I dislike Brown more and more each day. In any workplace if the boss is walking around with a face like thunder and attitude of a spoilt brat it's going to feed through the group. No wonder the players won't bust a gut for him. He needs to be bigging up the players that he does have at his disposal, making them feel like they can run through walls. That's his job as a manager. He's been backed pretty well in general and brought in some quality over and above what we have had in recent years. It's down to his failings that we are under-performing

This is an extraordinary comment from Brown. I've no doubt he may be tired but this is sending out the wrong message in so many ways. Firstly, if he does sign a striker how is he going to feel? Motivated? Really wanted? Secondly, the whole club, most importantly the fans, are needing a lift and comments such as this are just depressing. His job is to lead and inspire, both the fans and the staff, and I' afraid he seems to be increasingly failing in this regard.

I hope, as someone suggested, that this is double bluff and that an exciting announcement will be made which will lift everyone. If it isn't, then we will need someone who can give the club that lift. For the first time, I'm starting to think that Brown isn't capable of that.

I've said before he says it as he sees and gives an honest answer. If I was him I wouldn't tell us anything that is going on ever- of course there would be outrage...the fans deserve to know etc. Personally I prefer it this way but I wouldn't blame him for going the other.

I've said before he says it as he sees and gives an honest answer. If I was him I wouldn't tell us anything that is going on ever- of course there would be outrage...the fans deserve to know etc. Personally I prefer it this way but I would blame him for going the other.

I've never criticised anyone for being honest but there are ways of saying things. Rather than "we're now at the bottom of the list", he could say that he is doing his best but it's really tough. I wouldn't criticise him for that - I am a realist and know that Southend is not a very attractive club. However, I will criticise him if he fails to do his main job of leading, inspiring and getting the best out of the players he has or is about to sign. Increasingly, his public utterances have had the opposite effect and there is no excuse for that.
