Maybe it’s the fact it’s Macauley and W block are urging him on to keep plugging away. There were a few songs for him Tuesday night. I’d personally love him to score tomorrow, the roof would come off the West stand. He’s a trier, even if he isn’t banging them in and he’s becoming kind of a cult hero.
Another thing I don't get, we all want him to score every game, but nothing happens. I would love DW to get a run out, not just 5 mins here and there, but he isn't given a look in. People say KM sees him in training and can't be impressed with what he does, we see the other strikers at match time, and aren't impressed.

Or happy with mediocrity?
I don't really buy this. I don't think many/anyone is genuinely 'happy' with our league position - but one can accept it.

On the Bonne situation this discussion has come from I think it was the initial skill of beating his man and the not give up attitude that was being applauded - I doubt many fans were happily clapping away giving it "what fantastic mediocrity"

Football is often about trying things, taking risks, they're not all going to be successful, but it's ok to applaud the attempt.

When MB gets 28 more chances than DW to have a go, it just grates as these other options aren't tried. I hope MB scores 10 before the end of the season, but what would it say about our ambitions if he didn't,and we still extended his contract.

I really don't know where our fans are coming from when they acknowledge a player for just showing, determination, commitment and a desire to win! Especially a player who when he joined us was only doing so for a meal ticket. Where is the benefit in fans offering encouragement? 🫣 Opinions, who needs them 😉

Nothing to do with the discussion

He’s played 302 minutes this season plus a further 204 minutes in preseason.

What has stood out from those 506 minutes as making you think he deserves more opportunities?

What do you think are his strengths that you think can make us a better team?

To me, it all boils down to some fans not as happy as others being in such a position in the league, not even challenging for a play off place.
Would some of you clap a player who has a shot and it goes out for a throw, just for making the effort.

Hardly a balanced senerio to compare with your cited actual effort from MB the other night, but possibly, especially if the ball had been picked up in midfield, surged forward, took on a couple defenders, left them from dead before mucking up the finish! The approach play may well result in appreciation being shown for the effort in creating the opportunity if not the execution. Now a snap shot from inside the box mostly likely a different story. Appreciation being shown is relevant to the perception of the effort shown to the eye of the beholder.

This really bugs me with Waldron, they guy was bought as a goal scorer, albeit at a lower level, but never gets a look in, it must be done to training. Towards the back end of last season I thought Waldron was starting to look good, Im sure it was the last game of the season he was quality and got a standing ovation when he went off. Yet walker seems to get loads of time but rarely scores

I just see it in a different way. Look at Wokings second goal, he ran 20 yards beat 2 defenders and scored from the edge of the box, and we are are applauding effort rather than outcome. We have to change our approach as a team and what we expect from our team. Non league is not where we should be, we should be better than that. Sick of being where we are.

A poster earlier suggested Danny was having trouble getting up to match fitness after his long lay off through injury. Someone who i believe has fair links to the management. So we can stop going on about preferential treatment to other strikers, if the lad is still on the path back.
Unless that doesnt fit an agenda if there is one.

I clapped Bonne for his effort, right in front of block W as did most of us. It was at a time when the team needed a kick up the rear, fans were getting pretty worked up at that point, mightve been a goal down, knowing how important it was on Tues night to grab a win. We cheered anyone around that time that looked like they wanted those 3 points as much as us.

You seem to have a real downer on Waldron.

No one is saying that he is the new Pele (as you have previously intimidated) but he certainly did well in the NLS in a poor team and his recent record is better than any of our other strikers who are not exactly setting the world alight.

I just think that giving him a go is not a risk (we ain't going up and we ain't going down) and may well bear fruit, and if it doesn't at least we will know.

Don't think Pele was much of a manager (if truth be told as PB used to say).Nor is KM either. :Winking:

Ps before you start by saying that you were talkiimg about Waldron I think I should say that my comments are more relevant to the thread title than yours,IMO.

As a long term supporter myself I have total empathy with your feeling's as to where we now find ourselves as a football club, it ruddy well hurts!
But I take the view we are where we deserve to be based on an ongoing period of declining performance, both off and on the pitch, both mutually inclusive.
It's difficult not to have feelings of mediocrity if your reference point is historically better individual players and teams that we have had. Throw in the fact that we have a fanbase more than worthy of EFL status and it's not an easy pill to swallow.
But the simple honest fact is all that has gone before is just that, gone. We are at the start of a rebirth of the Club and in the hands of owners who have a certain approach as to how they will oversee a return to better times. We are starting at a level both on and off the pitch below our potential but realistic to our current abilities. We should and do have expectations, but currently they have to come with a large portion of realism of the hear and now and that means a necessary level of acceptance of the current limitations of the squad, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have an expectation of ongoing improvement.
