Post-Match Thread and Ratings Yeovil Town 2-2 Southend United

really poor performance from too many today.

GUS, Taylor, Coker and Hopper were particularly poor today.

Kendall did really well up front scored one and assisted for Golding's equaliser. Golding looked quality all game, if only we could get him in on a perm for next season.

Parillon did well especially with the run for the opener. He is a quality signing and does offer something no other midfielder at the club does, the ability and confidence to run with the ball and drive forward.

Morton was solid and played the pivotal roll very well.

Everyone else not mentioned was bang average and no better today, but as we are all going to be told, it's a hard place to come.

Well it is if you give opposition strikers as much space as they want in your box! Taylor culpable for the first and GUS nowhere to be seen at the far post for the second.

That was a winnable game today even as poorly as we were at the back. And we only got a point.

Now means 9 wins from 12 games...... NO WAY JOSE!
That perfectly sums up what I watched. Don’t understand why Hopper starts over Bonne, nor why Taylor is on the pitch. GSM may have scored loads but how many has he cost us as defensively he seems a liability. Coker was good until he got injured , after he returned he seems a good yard off the pace.
All opponents make subs pro-actively, we make ours reactively and even then too late. When we do this right we may start winning games, and by a larger margin

We started off like a house on fire and the attacking intent was very obvious )hooray), complimented by going a goal up after a minute. As the half wore on things didn't look all that great with Yeovil equalising and then taking the lead courtesy of Noodle. Second half we huffed and puffed but in the end (the very end) Golding smacked home an equaliser which most of us thought was beyond our reach. So, leaving aside all of the in-depth analysis on here as to why we are rubbish, we left Huish Park with a point. If I'm honest, it wasn't pretty, and yes we could have done more to help ourselves, but we're still in with a sniff of the final play-off place, so bring it on for Tuesday and Woking.

Hard to believe Yeovil were the home team!
They were very negative and we found it difficult to break them down once they’d gone ahead .
Despite our possession once again we failed to score enough to win. We should have been ahead at HT but 2nd half they shut up shop and tried to hold on.
Roll on Tuesday UTB

Our mentality when approaching the final third was summed up today when James Golding skillfully charged through midfield, laid the ball into Josh Walker, back to goal inside the penalty area, but Walker choose to try an intricate back heel which led to Yeovil clearing. We're always looking to try and score the perfect Arsenal/ Man City type goal. That's got to change if we're going to trouble the top spots next season. Unless we can get better players in, we're not going to be either scoring or testing the keeper enough with that approach.

Final word goes to James Golding. An outstanding performance today from a player who we must strive to keep here beyond the summer.

Maher is happy with how we played.

Still bedding new players in.

Haven't given away many chances.

Created a lot of chance again away from home.
He talks like we are some Championship team not a NL team, All that bollocks just makes us the mugs. We all know we make chances , it's his job to sort the team out, not always looking for an excuse as to why he hasn't.

Once again, players are good enough to win most weeks but our very useless manager refuses to go for the jugular.
2 games we play three up front, 6 points gained.
Ever since , 2 up front with the ineffective Hopper the new favourite, we huff and puff and rely on defenders to score.
Oh well another year at least of Maher ball until they do the right thing yawnnn.
Won’t be there Tuesday bored stupid by all this, no need for it but Mr Stubborn will never change!

That's a bit harsh on Bonne, who I think has started to play well. Still can't work out why he was left out today and then only given 6+ minutes!
Yep, after all this time bonne is finally starting to show what he can bring, not goals granted, but other things.

So what happens? We buy another toothless aging striker and play him instead 👌👌

Just back to my folks who live in Glastonbury. Not often you score two goals 93 minutes apart. Strange game – in some ways the opposite of Tamworth last weekend as we seems to lose all fluency second half, but the same in that we lacked creativity and too many players off it. Very pedestrian at times and couldn’t make long periods of possession count. Superb start, largely due to the courage and ingenuity of LCP, who looks to be a real asset. Their two goals were pretty shambolic. The first an error by Taylor, gifting their very nippy striker an unmissable chance with his short back pass. However, I think Hayes could have been livelier to the situation and come out quicker. The second was poor defending – mainly by Goodliffe who seemed to be wading through treacle, as their winger eased past him, then Hayes was indecisive as the ball came across and no one was guarding the back post. However, we were pretty dominant first half. I think those were the only two shots on target they had all game. Loads of good opportunities – probably 6-8 half chances, often with LCP at the heart of their creation. I was still feeling confident at half time, but we dropped off badly. Yeovil put everyone behind the ball and defended well, though they were devoid of ideas when they won the ball and at times it was like attack and defend training. We seemed equally devoid of ideas going forward. We seemed unwilling to shoot and just followed the same, patient, low risk, but ineffective approach of either 1) tippy tappy to get in to the box in central areas (where we crowded out) or 2) float a cross in (which tended to be a bit aimless). I think Golding’s goal was our first shot on target of the second half. The ref did us no favours – pedantic and blew up all the time and some laugable errors in free kicks they gave to them. Not the finest effort by the fans either – I expected more than 350 odd after exceeding 700 last week and the two quick goals killed the mood a bit. However, credit where it’s due – we kept singing!

Hayes 6 – one of his weaker performances and sometimes it’s ok to kick for territory.

Goodliffe 6 – largely solid and good in the air but culpable for the goal

Golding 8 – great goal to finish, but one of the few players that always looked forward when they got the ball.

Taylor 6.5 – bad for the goal, but worked hard second half and tried to make something happen

Scott-Morriss 6 – poor touch today, less engine than usual and some misplaces passes (but still a threat)

Morton 7 – some teasing crosses and good vision but predictable at times

Coker 6 – lacked creativity but some decent link up play

Bridge 7.5 – a menace to their defence, not back at his best for reasons for positivity

LCP 8 MOM– superb first half – at the heart of all that was good, but faded badly after the break.

Kendall 7 – good goal, worked hard and linked up play well – should have had a pen second half

Hopper 5 – won a couple of headers, but much as last week, largely anonymous so unwilling to shoot and often lost the ball or past it backwards.

Subs

KAF 7 – great engine, some good touches, but lacked much sparkly

Bonne – not on long, did ok

Walker - as above
