No. Jason Williams isn't there. Are pulling up trees yet???
There must have been someone leaning on a shovel - and someone supervising them whilst smoking a cigarette?Been down there and got a some pics but wasnāt a lot happening, not sure if that because of the heat View attachment 21089View attachment 21090View attachment 21091
I suspect they'll be taken away and different ones brought in by whoever wins the contract to build the stadiumDo the diggers stay on site or will they be loaded up and taken away.
I read somewhere, maybe on here, that the Roots Hall pitch was constructed on top of a thick layer of sea shells to aid drainage.
Any signs of people picking shells off the beach at Thorpe Bay fir the new training pitches???
And donāt forget the guy in hi viās that walks around taking pictures with his tabletThere must have been someone leaning on a shovel - and someone supervising them whilst smoking a cigarette?
When I was a young lad (and that was many a year ago) I was told that the "hollow" that is Roots Hall was an old rubbish tip ............ and that was a factor in a) reducing the effect of wind in the ground & b) aiding drainage.I read somewhere, maybe on here, that the Roots Hall pitch was constructed on top of a thick layer of sea shells to aid drainage.

You are both right. It was once a rubbish tip but cockles were used originally when the pitch was built. When I was a young lad (and that was many a year ago) I was told that the "hollow" that is Roots Hall was an old rubbish tip ............ and that was a factor in a) reducing the effect of wind in the ground & b) aiding drainage.
Mind you, all of this was before Wikipaedia & all that made up stuff.
Must of been ron trying to locate where he buried the warchestWent past fossets field today at about 6.00pm and saw yellow JCB machinery still moving around.
I didn't think that cockles were originally used as drainage? You are both right. It was once a rubbish tip but cockles were used originally when the pitch was built.
As an aside it was also an allotment during the war.
This is no good without picturesNo shells at Thorpe Bay as the beach was imported about 20 years ago. Some girl was picking her thong when I went for swim this evening

Right on Sutton road roundabout there is a opening in the blue hoardings with earth along the front if you look across from there you will see the diggers in the fieldsGenuine question. When I drive down from B&Q past Waitrose on the left and B&Q on the right the field behind B&Q belongs to marks and Spencerās I saw works taking place there this week but nothing behind the blue Hoardings coming onto Sutton road ā¦ am I looking in the wrong

Thanks a lot appreciated ! That confirms I just havenāt seen them ! Appreciate the clarityThe diggers are on the area for the 4 training pitches behind the "Wooden Fence" marked in red on the map, the car park will be behind the "Blue Fence" marked in in blue on the map.
There is a gap between the blue hording fence and the wooden fence (shown in red) and you can see the diggers and equipment working on the new training pitches.
