Post-Match Thread and Ratings Wolves 2-1 Southend United AET

This link gives a very good overview, with quotes from PS about Bilel etc. Great performance from the lads.

Love this:

On the performance of Mohsni:
"He was playing on park pitches in Paris a few weeks ago. We signed him for a pair of boots and accommodation, but when we smooth some of the rough edges off him, bigger clubs will be knocking on the door for him."

I thought Moshni played well last night, impressed with what I saw, wins a hell of a lot of headers. More over, what a difference from Saturday, spirited and up for it, no long balls being hoofed up to the opposition centre halves, we played the ball on the floor and created so much more. I just hope we transfer our Carling Cup performance into the league Friday night.

One other thought Josh Simpson is a must starter Friday night, he looked really good in the middle again. Blair Sturrock other than the one shot that hit the bar, again did nothing for me, I would rather see Spencer start, he others more and would be a good foil for Corr/Patterson given the chance, imo anyway, and I feel offers the team a whole lot more, pace, hunger and puts back four under pressure, well imo anyway.

I'm off to sleep at my desk now....

I take it from the reports then on here from people at the game, that we played 4-3-3/4-5-1 again, instead of 442? They specifically said it was 4-4-2 on the radio with Simpson right, Zaaboub left and Sturrock/Corr up front...

First time I have seen us play this season and have to say I was impressed, especially considering they have only been together about a month. I thought we played really well. Knocked the ball about very well during normal time and was truely gut-wrenching to lose so late in the game.

Morris - 7, Unlucky to concede the goals he did. Went the right way for the penalty and could do nothing about the winner with the 6 yard box so crowded. made a very good stop in the first half of extra time and was quick of the line to claim any through balls.

Clohessy - 7, Defended very well and showed some class on the ball going forward. Fantastic play between him and Simpson for our goal.
Moshni - 8, Man of the Match, What an absolute monster! Tackled everything that moved and barely missed a header all game, although was dragged out of position for the penalty. Looks very promising.
Barker - 7, Looked very accomplished at centre back. Won plenty of headers and provided good cover when Gilbert went forward.
Gilbert - 6, Fairly solid performance, although went missing leaving Patterson isolated for the winner.

Simpson - 7, All action and good use of the ball. Linked very well with Clohessy and provided a great cross for the equaliser. Think it was him who missed a great chance just before the Wolves winner, but he must have been dead on his feet after 120 minutes.
Easton - 6, Quiet performance but assured in the middle. Kept the ball moving and kept it simple.
Grant - 7, All over the pitch, his work rate was outstanding. Took one for the team when he blocked a 30 yard thunderbolt. Made some great runs forward and broke up Wolves' play constantly.
Zaaboub - 5.5, Struggled to really impose himself on the game and set piece delivery wasn't great. Kept wide well though and was always an option to spread the play.

Sturrock - 7, Held the ball up well and won a lot of headers. Was also good dropping deep to pick up the ball to try and create something. Had a shot come off the bar.
Corr - 6, Less imposing than Sturrock but worked hard and won some headers.

Subs:
Hall - 6, Struggled to have a major impact on the game but the fresh legs kept the pressure on Wolves.
Soares - 6.5, Like Hall didn't have a massive impact but did well to set up a great chance for Simpson.
Patterson - 6, Needs to have Sturrock or Corr alongside him to do the dirty work. Didn't win as much in the air and isn't nearly as strong on the ball. Good movement upfront but was left isolated for the winner.

around 350, i thought simpson was our worst player. moshi is one fantastic player who is amazing at times but needs to stop making dreadful mistakes!!!
Some of his defending is worthy of the prem, if he stops the mistakes we will finally have a asset at the club again

thats if we ever get the chance to offer him a longer contract, have to make these sort of decisions early or lose out.

I thought Simpson was superb myself! Hardly gave the ball away all night. Worst players for me Sturrock & Zaaboub.

sorry forgot Zaaboub he was that bad.
Interesting when someone has a different view on someone but at least we ae not slagging each other off

A really good game of football. End to end stuff and really gutting at the end.

Morris - 7, Again another solid performance, unlucky with the goal and nearly got to the penalty, another one or two brilliant stops as well.

Clohessy - 7, First decent game he has had for us, solid
Moshni - 8, An excellent performance, however he is an accident waiting to happen! Needs to clear his lines better, but some of his tackling was simply outstanding.
Barker - 7, Quality
Gilbert - 6, Solid
Simpson - 7, Gave a lot tonight, some very good pressing and passed the ball forward (oh my god!).
Easton - 6, Quiet but solid
Grant - 7, Again outstanding work rate, ran himself into the ground.
Zaaboub - 4, just don't see it, failed to trap the ball, tackle or get past his man, is he a winger?
Sturrock - 7, Started brightly, some excellent touches but then hurt himself after a heavy fall, then aggrivated it later on in the first half, couldn't run, should have come off at half time.
Corr - 6, Wins loads of headers, but needs Paterson/Spencer close to him to get his knock downs.

Subs:

Hall - 5, Struggled to get involved in the game but got stuck in.
Soares - 5, Again just don't see it. Paterson put it on a plate for him about 7 yards out and he completely fluffed it - that was the match winner.
Patterson - 6, Needs to play next to Corr to get onto the knock downs, good feet and would have been clean through on goal if Soares had just passed the fri&&in ball!!

Ref and Linos were excellent throughout.

A very good team performance, all gave it tonight and again, with this sort of application we can do well this season.

Nice to see we should have a "Most Improved Player" for the Pringello Index after saturdays no-show in that department!

Have we stumbled upon perhaps our best back 4? Yes Mohsni may make mistakes but so does JT and Rio, Barker for me always looks like a centre back and Gilbert sounds a real steady eddie at left back. Take Zabooub out and put Hall in and I think last nights team isnt too bad as a starting XI to get playing regularly.

sounds good. However will Gilbert be up for 90 on friday? I wouldn't be surprised if he's rested
