Not for me. I stood there as that was the only way to get a ticket (via a neighbour) for the Man United game and I much prefer the view from South Upper

I think you may be confusing him with Bonzo who was a council worker from Shoebury who had a van with a mattress in the back although Clive did indeed travel in it to many games.
It's a pretty poor view, to be honest. Or was, when I last visited.
Spent many years travelling in the famous or rather infamous Bonzmobile back in the day, Boy it really was something else but I kinda loved it (but maybe not). We generally use to meet up on a Friday evening at the bowling alley on Southend Pier. Think it really would be quite interesting to find out how many people on SZ travelled in it?? One of my pet hates to this very day is fig rolls as I often found myself sleeping in the van on that old mattress and then waking up in the morning having laid on some and no one would own up to who they belonged too. Some of the main characters from back in those day are certainly still about at Roots Hall and have beccome friends for life. It really was such a great time to follow the team, having said that I'm not so sure that hygiene levels were top of anyone's agenda back in those days. I last saw the legendary Bonzo possibly about 10 years ago when he came back to Roots Hall on the Peterborough United supporters coach, he was living in Peterborough at that time. Think he was still wearing the same clothes from back in the 60's especially his famous roll neck jumper with the massive neck and his sheepskin coat, or rather what was left of it. Wonderful memories they were as well that still resonate with me quite often to this very day.

Jeez, that's a name from the past, remember him from when I lived in Rayleigh around 1967. He had a van with a mattress in the back which he used to travel to away games!
The van with the mattress belonged to Pete "Bonzo" Valentine. Clive used to own a black Standard car. Always amazed me how he got in it as he's around 6' 5" tall.

Bonzo lived in the Pitsea/Basildon area. I only travelled in his van on a couple of occasions. There was always a risk of Pete falling asleep and the rear of the van had a unique smell.
Might have got where Pete lived wrong, as he worked for the Basildon CC. He may well have lived in Shoebury ... my apologies.

Absolutely yes, but have reservations about some of our yoof getting too involved with the away support rather than concentrating on backing the team.
It’s bound to happen. I’m sure they will get bored of shouting at 30 Tamworth or Solihull pretty quickly though. Perhaps a few older heads can dish out a bit of “self policing” like the old days?

I've been in the Bonzo mobile but not to an away game.Used to play for Chemico(when I was on the buses) in the Wed.league on Weds,He used to give me,Grumpy Blue and Mickey Staines ,a great mate of his, a lift to/from games. Also remember having a fair few pints with him at the Nelson + Bowling alley back in the day.

I saw so many goals from the Pak in the North Bank. Those who were there will remember King Billy, Gary Moore, Bill Garner, Eddie Firmani etc scoring there. Mind you, it was better when you could change ends at half time, so you'd always be behind the goal the Blues were kicking into. Not sure I'd want to stand every game now (I'm a bit too old for that), but I'd love to go back there sometimes. The noise we made was phenomenal....

Wow, was not expecting it to be so heavily no. I started going to games in the early 2000's. I sat in the west and there's where I will always sit when I get to go to a game.
