Why does nobody like Freedman?

i lobve freedman and always think he makes the differnce people who know football know this just some people dont look beyond the goals look how are suporters got rid of paynter hooper ect we dont like people unless they a eastwood or barnard

I wouldn't be as arrogant as to say I know more football than anyone else on here, but my opinion is that Freedman is finished. Can't run won't run, can't score, keeps having a pop at other players, appears to have very little interest in Southend United.

I must remember not to take a breath when reading your posts.

The problem with intelligent footballers is their bodies invariably give out before their brains, so Dougie is very good at playing balls through for players to run on to and knowing what to do with the ball but his all-round play is hampered by his age and injuries.

The other problem with intelligent footballers is often their team mates being less able. An excellent, defence splitting, pass only looks so if someone else has had the intelligence to see it, and move to collect it. Otherwise it looks like a pass back to the opposition.

Not commenting on Freedman in particular, but making a general comment

Agree totally and Freedman has done a few of those passes as well.

Personally I think Freedman has been a class act whilst he's been at the club. Clearly a great professional off the pitch and you only have to read the interviews with others at the club to understand what an impact he has had (Barnard was particularly complimentary).

Tilson's "boys doing a man's job" was an interesting comment. Freedman is the most experienced player at the club and, if Tilly needs a man to do a job, he should start on Saturday alongside whichever player Tilly thinks would complement his skills. Yes his legs have gone, but his brain hasn't and neither has his attitude. I don't care who starts up front with him (Walker, Paterson, Spencer or a youngster) but provided they complement Dougie's skills then that's good enough for me.

Thats a fair point.

Like when Whelan first joined us - was painful to watch how intelligent he was compared to those around him. Similarly when Marsh signed.

he looked good, then got injured, and hasn't been the same player since.

simples.

People who know football? Who? Like Steve Tilson you mean? The same Steve Tilson that wanted to loan him out? The same Steve Tilson who didn't want him at the club in the 1st place?

In The Hole ?

I know GBJ will hate this but ... we somehow have to use this man's talent. If Tilly is not going to use Spencer until his fitness levels are up, then it may well be worth starting with Dougie in a withdrawn striker's role, provided that the ball is played to his feet. I'm probably hoping against hope, but I'd like to think that he's still capable of the incisive passing that just might create a chance or two for Matt Paterson, who really does need forward support. I think this Saturday's team selection will be very interesting and I would like it to be 4-4-1-1 with Dougie 'in the hole.' Having said that, I know which hole GBJ would like to see him thrown into ... :)

Dunno what you mean!! :D

The thing that i hate the most, is his attitude. Constantly whinging at others around him, yet he himself doesn't look to put enough effort in. Nothing worse than a player not putting in the work

I said Dougie should have started on Tuesday, at least he could have helped Patterson not look so isolated.

Agree about lazy players but are you sure he is whinging or could he be giving instructions to the others ?

I suppose there is a very thin line between instructions/encouragement/whinging.

Freedman likes to wave arms, point and generally bark instructions. 2 examples spring to mind.

1) Last season - Franno plays a ball down the wing to Freedman's feet, he fannys about on it and loses it. His first reaction is to turn to Franno and start his whinging and pointing. Franno, turns drops his head, walks away and is clearly seen muttering something to himself. I actually think Freedman was a big factor on Franno last season, and made him very nervous, hence his indifferent displays.

2) The Wycombe game i think. Can't remember who played the ball, but it went over the top towards Feedman. his poor first touch meant it bounced off him and rolled towards the by-line. As he has no pace, the ball trickled out for a GK. Freedman, instantly turns around and starts whinging at someone.
