Why does nobody like Freedman?

RettendonCB

Newbie
This man, Freedman does not appear, in my eyes, to do much wrong. He is very clever, knows his game but barely plays. In my opinion he is too clever sometimes but obviously he wont influence a game with ten minutes once every three weeks. Yes he earns more than anybody else but there is a reason for that.... technically he is CLASS.

Simple. He plays for Southend and the people who moan don't and want to. He was outstanding before his run of injuries but is coming back to fitness at the moment. Played ok today and ran around quite a bit.

He is one of the few players in our squad who can make a defence-splitting pass. Unfortunately, that injury from last season has taken its toll and it appears that his legs have gone. If it's true that he's regained his fitness, then that is one encouraging piece of news from a dismal day for the Blues.

ps actually, 'few' is an exaggeration ...

He cant run . He rarely gets on the ball because of my first point. He still thinks he is in the championship and plays balls beyond our players capabilities. He doesnt score many goals. Oh and have i mentioned he cant run.

We cannot afford a top earner to be sitting on the bench doing nothing. Compare him to the goat and you get my point entirely.

Do you know what he is on? (Wages)
Did you see him today?

The reason why he plays balls beyond our players' capabilities is because has the experience and our players don't.

I like dougie! He's ovbiously gone down hill cause of his age and injuries etc. But his experience can do a good ol help sometimes in teams like southend. He was running today against wycombe really well and wanted the ball, will be nice to see him get a few more goals.

Lost his legs but still has it mentally and technically. Good assett to tutor the youngsters as well.

Is a good tutor worth 2.5k a week? Is a player that scores maybe 5 times a season worth nearly 150k a year?

The answer is no.

Sorry dougie , but do us all a favour and retire

he is not just a good tutor Tommy. he should be on the field more than he is, he is a humble man and always tries. deserves respect but doesnt get it!

Why does Freedman not like me?

He obviously doesn't, because he continues to insult my intelligence everytime he trudges on to the pitch.

It's a shame that his legs have gone, because last season he was a great impact sub, but at the moment it's all going south for him.

I dont deny he is a good tutor a nice fella or even a useful substitute, my point is for 2.5k a week we could sign a much more useful player who scores goals.

he should play every game if he is fit, only person apart from Francis that can create things. No wonder Barnard left because he had to rely on the occasional ricochet that fell his way, or a chance created by Macca husstling with very few ever clear cut chances

Corrected for accuracy!

He made the difference at Leeds in their first season in Div 1 & nearly got them up. He's been Barclays Bank since coming to us.

Move him on Ron, he's your player, your decision to bring him in & break the pay structure for him!

A quality player in his prime, but is now taking money better spent on wages of up & coming or good enough now players. Shame as I think came to us two years too late & we've missed out on a class player!

Spot on. Saying Freedman plays balls beyond our players capabilities basically infers that Freedman is too good for League One so it's a bit of a redundant argument. Thought Dougie played well when he came on and I think he'd be the ideal partner to Paterson at this point.

If you look at the inexperience of our strikers (Spencer, Paterson, even Walker) then playing alongside a player like Freedman would be invaluable at this time. Not only that but when a side in general is in this state experienced heads are necessary, Dougie is by far our most experienced player. He's also the only forward player we have capable of a defence-splitting pass and seeing as we have pretty much bugger all creativity this season that's something that should be taken into account.

I really don't see why some people don't like Freedman, he was an absolute class above everyone else before his injury last season and if he can get a run of games and get back to that sharpness he's still one of the best strikers in the lower leagues. I just hope Tilly starts him on Tuesday (I won't hold my breath though, if we're playing 4-5-1 at home to Wycombe it will obviously be the same at the Den).

Your name isn't Dougie by chance is it?

From what I heard from a certain board member you'd be surprised to know that Dougie isn't on as much as you think......

Could you reveal the amount that Dougie could be on so we can end all this bollocks about him earning £3k+ or what ever some people make up on here!

I can't reveal the figure as I wasn't told it, the guy seemed genuinely bemused though when it came up in conversation and said he had no idea where that rumour came from but it's inaccurate. I was told it was no more than £2k. Our highest earner is Adam Barrett (not surprising as the skipper) but he's not on much more than that apparently, the players don't earn quite as much as people think.

If Spencer and Paterson are the future, then four months training and sometimes playing with a striker of Dougie Freedman's stature will be absolutely priceless for them. Obviously his legs are gone but I'd still hope that he'd have something to offer on the field in this final few months.

i agree with all that apart from the last bit, he's been absolutely toilet on the pitch and he has nothing left to offer on the pitch IMO
