What would you do if you were Justin Rees

...because like me and thee, employees (players) want security.
Why sign on loan when you can get a permanent deal elsewhere? One year's salary versus three months is a no brainer.
You don't think some more Bim or Golding or Goodliffe would have helped and been a better option, both in ability and the flexibility it gives, than some of the (that'll have to do) permanent signings ?

Surely the biggest problem if you give Maher and co the pre season and signings and we continue in the current hit and miss form ,any changes hand the new manager a team he didn't choose or have signings he would have made.
Still think the long contracts given to the current management which could have been a sound financial move if we were successful, is now the major stumbling block to a change if needed

Well if I were Justin Rees I would have a greater understanding as to why a group of successful businessmen save the club, look for sustainability and for me, on paper, have little to no chance of recouping their investment. Pragmatism and philanthropies seem to be at odds. They must have some vision/prospect that alludes me.

In terms of what he sees on the pitch, I suspect he must have some disappointment and regret unless he really did not need/want us to do too well. The team is underachieving and that is down to players, their on field decisions, and the management decisions. Yes, we can use all the usual, well worn excuses borne out historic matters, but this team has not performed as well as it could.

So if I were JR, I would be looking to the November/December period to make big decisions. The apologists will either be vindicated or found out.

That’s a fair point but to deny it completely is also wrong in my opinion.

Deny what? That Kev said something?

I don’t doubt something was said, but until we know exactly what was said it’s potentially a mountain out of a molehill.

Do you know what Kev said?

Maybe time to give the stuff about KK a rest? The question is 'What would you do if you were JR' .

If I was JR and we don't beat Braintree Ebbsfleet and Wealdstone , I would go down the pub and drink a lot of beer. And then take a taxi to Ron's house .......

I'll leave the rest to your imagination

Win, lose or draw, I reckon he'll do that anyway.

So Justin, in case you're interested, a while ago we had a poll to discover whether Kevin Maher had reached the end of his managerial role at Southend Utd. The poll is still active, and currently 50.9% of the Zone readership do not want to get rid of Kev, 33% want him gone, and the remaining 16.1% are on the fence. There is no way on earth that any of us could say that we have had a scintillating season so far, and some games have been dire. Nevertheless, the majority of the Zone readership appear to be prepared to stay with our current coaching team. You may read many strident posts on this thread and many others, demanding Kev be binned, but I'm presuming they are part of the 33% and therefore in the minority. Currently, our fan base is outrageously good, numbers wise, I'm not sure what that tells you, but it's a fact, home and away.

We may yet make the play-offs, although it's starting to look a bit of a stretch now. But if I were you I'd be considering the whole picture, playing and financial, and thinking we'll see this season out with what we've got, go again next season, and then take stock after a reasonable number of games.

Anyway, that's what I'd do if I was you.

Are you telling us this has been an unsuccessful season ?? Success isn't always measured by League position. COSU didn't promise promotion at the 1st attempt, too many other things needed putting right first. For example repairs to Roots Hall to ensure we could actually start the season. The Training Ground is now just about up and running, might help attract players. Can you imagine a tour of the facilities back in July., basic or what ? We have had no visits to the High Court, no Winding up Orders and bills paid on time. Plus many improvements around Roots Hall.

Kevin and the football department haven't failed this season, I felt we would be around mid table and we will achieve that.

Think some people need to re listen to the recent town hall thing with Tom Lawrence. Can’t see us massively increasing the playing budget at all and certainly can’t see us moving on many of the players we currently have especially as almost all of them are under contract until next summer.

We need a big summer but KM doesn’t want a big squad so we will probably get 3 squad players in at a push and none of them will be wow signings.
This is fine- but let’s not then moan if we still aren’t scoring enough goals or competing for the top three. It’s the reality of the NL now and I can’t see it changing.

It is always interesting reading everyone's viewpoints about our current situation. Some more tolerant and understanding of our position and others more vocal and want KM to go. Although there is it seems a minority who are really unhappy it is understandable. Standing in 9th place in a non league competition does not make everyone feel like jumping for joy. We all hope for better times ahead of course.

We’ve had multiple chances of winning and being in the play offs , if you aren’t fuming and disappointed that we’ve thrown many chances of doing so then I don’t know what to say. Before the season maybe it was seen as a bonus but how this second half of season has planned out it’s not a bonus in my eyes . this last couple months we’ve had a brilliant opportunity to capitalise on other teams being in poor form and when it’s mattered we have proper crumbled
We don’t score enough goals. Hence, rather than having a lead that reflects our dominance, in too many games having been hammering the opposition 0-0 or 1-0 we then lose or draw because the opposition can take an opportunity.

Unfortunately fixing this reliably (rather than hungry rough diamonds who may or may not step up) costs ££

We will see in the summer how ambitious we are. Personally I would be happy to keep with much of what we’ve got, and bring in 3 or 4, IF those 3 or 4 were real quality, proven at least at this level. Probably 2 forwards, a left wing back and another attacking CM (even local lad Josh Rees who has 12 in 34 starts at an appalling Daggers team this year perhaps).

The last post on the Maher poll was on March 12 and because of the lack of visibility it is reasonable to conclude that if there had been subsequent posts the ratings might have changed.. Since then our record is P6 W2 D2 L2 GF 6 GA 8. Hardly an impressive sequence, dropping points to teams below us just at the time we should be making a serious play off challenge. I would like to think Justin Rees and his fellow directors would be concerned at these results and the manner of them. Two goals in the last four games is not good enough.

Instead of bleating on here every time we don't win a game, why don't you email Justin, and ask him his opinion?

I doubt they'll judge anyone on just a 6 or 4 match sequence. They have a 5yr plan, which I'm sure they'll adjust and tweak as necessary in order to achieve that 5yr plan rather than any short term reactions

You may, or may not be correct. Threads that have come to a natural halt tend to drop down the pages. If you think the figures could change, then maybe you post in the thread again to bump it and seem if the figures materially change.
