Question What are you reading?

All The Pretty Horses - Cormac McCarthy.

Haven't read this in a few years, would recommend this and the rest of the Border Trilogy. He's the greatest living author IMO.

Enjoyed this many years ago when it was a free gift with 'Esquire' or some other pretentious drivel. As for greatest living author, I would have to pick Martin Amis, and I've just finished 'Lionel Asbo' which isn't his finest work but was thoroughly enjoyable all the same.

My Animals and Other Family - Clare Balding's autobiography. Entertaining enough, particularly so if you're in to horse racing (which, in case anyone hadn't noticed, I am).

I've recently bought 'Lionel Asbo' on my iPad will be giving it a go soon. I tried to read 'Money' by Amis last year and struggled to get into it. What's his best work in your opinion Rusty?

Sadly, I would have to go with 'Money', probably my favourite novel by any author. 'London Fields', 'Success' and 'Dead Babies' are belters too. Give "Money" another tumble DBP, it's worth the effort.

Great novels (well I've not read Success), but my fave Amis is Time's Arrow and oddly Night Train too which has stuck in my mind since I read it.

The George RR Martin book was average at best. Nothing like his later stuff. Now reading some Fred Vargas which is as always fantastic.

Has anyone read anything by Julian Barnes? Been reading reviews that his new book 'Levels of Life' (out in April) is something rather special.

I've read pretty much all his stuff.Got Levels of Life on pre-order too.In my book (pun intended) he's number two (to Martin Amis)as Britain's best living fiction writer.
