Question What are you reading?

Just finished Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Brilliant. 6 stories going forward in time to a dystopian future and then back again. The connections between the stories become clear as time goes on. Sounds pretentious but isn't.

Oh it is pretentious. Didn't like it one bit, Ghostwritten was far superior (imho).

Just finished Hoggy, Matthew Hoggard's autobiography, which is an excellent read. Very funny, very few long words & not up his own bottom. A few interesting insights into Nasser's reign as England captain & Duncan Fletcher's management. I don't think either were keen on a plain talking Yorkshireman who didn't go to a good school!

Now reading Ronnie, Ronnie O'Sullivan's autobiography, which is poorly written, but seeing as Ronnie didn't try too hard at school, is borne out in the writing style. That said, interesting read so far!

simon hattenstone ghostwrote ronnie - i imagine it must have been hard work to get into ronnie's character!!

Never read it, even as a sprog.
Nor had I until very recently, nothing wrong with re-visiting or reading for the first time classic children's literature. That's a joy you'll have to come Paul, introducing your little 'un to favourite books!

I seem to remember reading that as a kid.Didn't you have a childhood?:winking:

Yes I did, thank you very much, and I did read quite a bit, however I never got around to reading this particular book. Although it's a children's novel, it's also a literary classic, and so I thought I'd have a read to see what all the fuss is about.

Plus it was a freebie on my phone's kindle app, and I fancied reading something.

Spot on. Treasure Island was the first "proper" book (after the Janet & John stuff) I read as a child, I found it an absolute joy, and it set me upon a lifetime love of reading. I also got it a freebie for my Kindle.
