61 Hours - Lee Childs

New book in the Jack Reacher series, Very good read with a nice twist. I cant say anything bad about Reacher as like Norris and Bauer he is invincible. 8/10

Finished SS-GB by Len Deighton the other day, great book really enjoyed it. Yesterday while I was illing in bed I read Down and out in Paris and London by George Orwell.

Just finished reading Haruki Murakami's The Wind Up Bird Chronicles. As always in Murakami’s books, the story centers around a character at a time of upheavel, and where the edges of reality, dreams & time become blurred. This was probably the most surreal story of his that I’ve read so far, and also the most disturbing, with a strong feeling of building to a climax, the book ends neatly enough to be satisfying but leaving enough unanswered questions to keep you thinking. An excellent book that had me reading it at every available opportunity.

Currently reading 'Howl, Kaddish & Other Poems' by Allen Ginsburg and listening to Kerouac's 'On The Road' read by Matt Dillon (along with FActotum, probably the best thing he's ever done).

Next on the list to read is 'The British Museum Is Falling Down' by David Lodge, anyone read it?

No, but by a strange quirk of coincidence, David Lodge gets a mention early on in a novel that I'm currently reading, ie 'Illicit Learning Curves' by Keith Warren. If any of you were at the Southend Book Fair on Saturday, you'd have seen my old English teacher Mr. Warren there with this book as it's only recently been published and he's trying to promote it. Just started reading it and it kicks off well - it's got a mid-life crisis feel about it and a few literary references noted already, eg Conrad's 'Heart Of Darkness,' which he introduced me and my class-mates to over 30 years ago. He was a cracking teacher and this looks like it will be a pretty good read. My initial response to the priapic protagonist is if this was a song, it would be The Who's 'Dreaming From The Waist' ... ;)

Exorcist by Blatty - rereading it for pleasure. Just finished reading Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole crime series - fantastic, fast, believeable and reads well.

Finished reading David Lodge's 'The Brirish Museum Is Falling Down', great read, very funny set over one stress filled day of a 60's masters degree student trying to work on his thesis but struggling to think of anything but the fact his wife may be pregnant AGAIN. Highly reccomend it.

Now reading Hunter S Thompson's 'The Great Shark Hunt' a collection of his newspaper /magazine writing, great stuff so far including stories on the Kentucky Derby & the Superbowl.

Currently reading "The Lieutenant" by Kate Grenville, historical drama about British expedition to Australia in the 18th century. S'alright so far.

DS,
If you enjoyed TBMIFD as much as you seemed to you might also enjoy DL's first novel "Ginger you're barmy" about his days in National Service and first love affair. Also a great read.
Enjoyed HST's Gonzo journalism too.

Just finished Greil Marcus's Listening to Van Morrison. An excellent read but only for committed fans.

Have you read 'Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the 20th Century' by Greil Marcus? Superb read, entirely about the Sex Pistols and their links to the Situationists, Dadaists & Medieval Heretics!

'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel. I'm enjoying it, but no the lugging around a 600-page hardback aspect.

Currently reading "44 Scotland Street", by Alexander McCall Smith (he of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency). Very enjoyable! Immediately before that I read "Zimmer Men" by Marcus Berkmann. If you play cricket, and/or if you love it, you should read this book. It's brilliant!

SZ.com..there is nothing out there with so many twists and turns.....gripping adventure story.
