Ajax, Barcelona, Cruyff, subtitled 'The ABC of an Obstinate Genius'

Right up BarnaBlue's street I would imagine ;)

You might be suprised to learn that I have a hardback copy of this on my bookshelves and even the great man's signature and a dedication on a copy of Burn's Barca book.:)
It's their super smug fans I hate not the players or the current team.
To my great regret, Cruyff is one of the few great players in the modern game(dating back to Pele)that I never got to see play live.I used to teach someone closely connected to him(hence the autograph/dedication)and I was glad to hear that he's enjoying his retirement. The Catalan team which he managed against Argentina before Xmas at the Nou Camp played some great football, there were some interesting team selections(Pique in midfield,Espanyol's midfielder Moises at centre half)and he got the biggest cheer of the night when he led the team out onto the pitch before the game.
ps I was doing a company class this pm when the manager stopped to take a call from Carlos Busquets(goalkeeper in Cruyff's team and Sergi's Dad)who is a great family friend apparently.
Possible Source of tickets in the future.:)

Gary Lineker does not like this. ;)

Paul Du Noyer's historical tome, 'In The City,' is a must for any music fan remotely interested in how our capital helped shape modern music. Just finished reading about The Small Faces, Kinks and The Who - wonderful stuff! Particularly liked his tribute to one of my heroes, Ronnie Lane - the 'most emotionally generous' musician of his times (sic). Thanks to BB for putting it my way... ...

Welcome back to the board.:)

Just finished Devil May Care, Bond written by Sebastain Faulks. A rip-roarer of a book.
Now reading around the world in 80 days by Verne.

Currently trundling through Catch 22, what a fantastic book. If you haven't ever read it, do so!

Its not what you think by Chris Evans.

Like him or loathe him, he is a very clever, and generous bloke.

Very entertaining book, I stayed awake till 2 finishing it.

Just finished reading Hemingway's 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro'. Enjoyable collection of short stories, while I like hemingway's writing though I just don't seem to get into it as much as other authors.

Now reading 'Things Fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe.

Just finished Blake Morrison's The Last Weekend. Now ordinarily I a big fan of BM's.I thoroughly enjoyed his account of the Bulger case, As if, along with the novel, South of the River and the two memoirs, And when did you last see your father? plus Things my mother never told me.
This time around though the plot's rather contrived and fanciful.I enjoyed the frequent nods to Shakespeare's Othello though they're a bit OTT at times. For example Desdemona's handkerchief in Othello becomes a semen stained tissue here in TLW!

Was abroad last week without any books! Found a dollar bookstore, and purchased Salems Lot (fantastic) and a recent Jack Reacher, which was the first one I've read. It was page a second stuff, entirely plausible and yet Bondesque. Now going to read the rest of the collection.

Quality read! Like you I couldn't put it down until I had read it.

I'm now reading David Batty's autobiography, which at the moment is a good read, especially hearing about his best mate Vinnie Jones & his rows with Howard Wilkinson.
