West Ham Friendly

Just to let you all know that i've had a reply already to my email this morning.

Mr King has stated that

1. The prices are also agreed with west ham

2. The proceeds are not all ours

3. The costs of staging the event are considerable

and

4. because we are playing prem opposition and there will be other "activities and events" they consider it good value.

Thats cleared that up then!

I'm sure he meant to apologise for choosing the hamsters & thank me for my continued support but maybe he just forgot to type that line.

Thats good news then, if the proceeds are not all ours then I definately wont be going.

I'm sure that most employees at the club must realise that the majority of Southend fans do not particularly like West Ham mainly due to the number of people living in Southend that support West Ham instead of The Shrimpers. This would put many people off going in the first place before seeing the prices.

Theres a lot of Southend fans who actually support West Ham as well as Southend, the amount of times Ive heard people at Roots Hall talking about West Ham shows this.

Even if it were true that the majority do dislike West Ham Id rather have a friendly against a "local" team where there could be a bit of rivalry and atmosphere than against someone like Fulham where it wouldnt generate interest.

I've looked at all the discussions about this match, the price, the opposition, benefit to the club, supply and demand etc. I for one don't happen to like West Ham, however, if we're honest is one of the real reasons that we're against it because we might get a good hiding on our own pitch and be humiliated in front of all the WH fans?

If the club said that we would have a centenary match against our great rivals Col U, wouldn't we all be up for it because we felt we could win?

Just a thought.

Stop bloody whinging everyone, £20 is reasonable for a local derby against a Premiership club, and I think the club have been superb ensuring that ticket sales after season ticket holders will go to those already on the ticketing database. This will ensure the home end will be mainly blue and the Hamsters will be confined to the North Bank.

No it won't. Many West Ham fans will be on the database because they will have visited Roots Hall in the last two seasons. How many were at the Man U game for example?

Well can be honest and state categorically that my objections haven't got anything at all do with possible results or performances.

I've raised my objections to the club about the price alone and received the apparently standard letter in response stating that it's costing a lot to put on and it really is good value. I responded back that I reserve the right to judge what is or isn't good value and that I won't choose to spend my money on this particular product.

I do however despise West Ham and their supporters more than any other club by a country mile and can't for the life of me understand how anyone can share their club allegiance between the mighty Shrimpers and that Claret and Blue shower from East London. I appreciate that others have different views and that for some this might be an ideal opportunity to see both clubs they love on one day; to these people I say "Enjoy your day and keep my seat warm!".

Very few non-Southend/Man Utd fans would have been at the Man Utd game surely ?. I cant see why a West Ham fan would have queued 4 hours to see Man Utd when they would have seen them at Upton Park anyway....

As with most things, we all have the right to attend, or not, any match we so choose.

In this case, I don't see this as being such a big issue. OK, £20 may be a bit toppy, but ultimately, increased gate revenue is going to help the club isn't it?

I shall be taking my nephew, who's 8, to the game as he's never been to the ground before and he likes West Ham. Hopefully, I can introduce him to the ways of Southend United. Convert for the future perhaps?

Can't remember what the Portsmouth match was last year, but does it matter? It'll only be a few quid difference.

increased attendance = increased beneit to the club in my book.
