West Ham Friendly

£20 for a friendly is an absolute disgrace regardless of who the opposition are, we could be playing a much more prestigious team (Real Madrid, River Plate, the Dutch national team etc etc) and I wouldnt pay that. I, for one, will not be entering into this transaction - I find the whole debacle scandalous!

thing is though roots hall will be full, unfortunatly with west ham scum

Following discussions at the AGM, it was confirmed by Geoff King that the Club will not consider West Ham for the ' Centenary' match.

To be honest, I doubt i'll bother going.

If Scriven or Hamster loving Brian Wheeler are monitoring this site I hope they report back that the fans see £20 as a rip off and West Ham and Centenary in the same breath as an insult.

Thats irrelevant, all I can do is vote with my feet and hope that others feel the same way as me.

Just to re-iterate its nothing to do with the opposition being West Ham, like I say in my original post, it could be a team with a lot more pomp and circumstance, but I find £20 to be an exhorbitant amount of money for a friendly.

I'd pay that for a cup game but for a friendly I find that obscene.

lets not get too jealous of west ham, ******* up its not, west ham have a lot of history, a good team and it should be a good team. 20 quid is definitely way over the top, but it will continue to be that high if no complaints are made and people buy the tickets. besides there will probably be more tempo to the game than some we watched last season and more passion...

Southend United - 100 years old, in 2007.

IT'S A POXY YEAR TOO LATE!!!

No wonder there is a "Positivity" around the club when theyre charging this much for meaningless friendlies!

The price doesn't bother me really (although, yeah, it is a bit steep), but i'd rather have a centenary match in our centenary year. Not a year later.

And also not against a team a vast proportion of Southend fans think of with a huge deal of contempt!

Well quite. Be great if we won though wouldn't it? Start the next, erm, 99 years off in style...!

Oh well that's one Saturday more for me to bank in the "Brownie Points" fund at home. There's no way I'm paying £20 for a friendly against nothing opposition. Is this really the best we can come up with?

I've just let them know my feelings on the matter. I don't suppose my 1 e-mail will get them to reconsider though. Anyone else want to give them a bit more food for thought?

I will be letting my feelings known by not attending and saving the 20 quid.
Im sure we only paid a tenner last year to watch pompey.

Well done the club. Good thinking. This game is likely to sell out anyway, and Southend fans can see exactly the same Southend players for a lot cheaper price at our various other friendly games. That means it will be the South East Essex Hamster fans who fill our coffers, so I like to think of pricing like this as a tax on stupidity.

I like that way of thinking :hilarious:

although the thought of a Shammer sitting in my seat :guns: :D

Would cost be £30 to see the West Ham game, which is £16.09 more than it costs me for 2 tickets in the family stand for a league match (on average against the season ticket price).

Sorry won't be going, will save my money for the first round of the Carling Cup.

£20 is a lot but if its a sell out I think the pricing is fine. Nice big chunk of cash for the club and those on here that think its a nothing game wont be missing anything by not going. Theres plenty that will want to go after all.

Despite whats been said here about West Hams' status Southend vs West Ham is a high profile game for the area and if the club can make a bit of money from it then I have no problem with it. Now if only 4000 turn up then thats something else!
