Crawley must be favourites as they are a point ahead of us and have a better goal difference to Torquay. All we can do is win and hope for the best. However, we are starting to find some form so IMHO no team would fancy playing us in the Play Offs at the moment.

If we packed Roots Hall on Saturday and all pulled one way it will help the team. So please all of those fair weather fans attend and support The Blues on Saturday. Roots Hall ,Southend on Sea 3pm Saturday 5th May 2012 Be There!!

I'll see what the weather is like.

I'll have to get behind the team in spirit as I will be attending Red Star v Partizan in Belgrade. Am I going to get some strange looks if we go up on Saturday.

:nope:

Never favourites. Third favourites. Relying on two results whereby the teams are 3rd and 4th best in the league. Funny thing pressure. It didn't effect Southampton though.

They'll have a new manager as Horton has quit. They could be out to impress and win a contract - but didn't do Barnet any favours however.

I wouldn't - you can't ask for any more than having your destiny in your own hands come the last day and I'd swap places and fixtures with Crawley in an instant as we'd not need favours from anyone else.

As for the "fake scores" going round at Grimsby and Swansea IIRC Bury had the ball in the net late on and our fans with radio's etc started celebrating - it was ruled out for offside but it caused confusion in all the commotion with some not realising it straightaway. I don't believe it was idiots circulating false info, just unfortunate. As for Swansea I only really remember a huge cheer when Hartlepool equalised to send us up, that info was correct.

Personally I've already added Crawley & Torquay's live scores to the favourites on my Futbol24 app so no chance of me not knowing what's happening elsewhere at any stage! Come on you Blues!
true, those with radio's heard the goal go in and were cheering and didn't hear it disallowed. I was up in a corner away from any correct news and thought we were promoted at the final whistle - I'm still medicating the come down.

As I was driving back from the Torquay game on Saturday the Radio Devon announcer was speculating about Crawley, Accrington and Hereford next week. After a couple of minutes he suddenly stopped and said "Hold on. Southend have won today and could come into the equation next week. Who are they playing?.............. oh no, Macclesfield at home! They've definitely got a chance if we slip up." So Southend had slipped out of Torquay and Crawley's minds, but a subsequent glance at the table after 5.00 p.m. on Saturday has I'm sure put us right back in their thoughts and, yes, they'll be a damn sight more nervous than we should be.

As this thread states I think your wrong. Yes we need the other two not to win and so are relying on those results. However if those teams are more than likely not to win as I believe and we are more than likely to win then that makes us favourite.

Crawley just got thumped 3-0 at home have lost their manager and have choked. What makes you think they can now win away from home?
Torquay have also lost form and were lucky to get a draw at home and have to play a team who are fighting for their lives and coming off the back of a fantastic away win.

We are flying , playing a team who just sacked their manager with 1 game to go and who are already relegated.

I will be gutted now if we don't get auto and IN MY OPINION are Favourites.

Unfotunately it's a lot more complicated than that.....

but just to simplify things the odds of being promoted (either by third place or via the play-offs) are as follows

Best prices;

Creepy 1/3
Torquay 5/4
Southend 2/1

To introduce a bit of reality to this thread, using bookies' odds for promotion, our chances of being promoted automatically on Saturday are no better than 1 in 12 and probably a lot worse. See below for the maths. So, go along on Saturday expecting to see a hammering of Macclesfield but anything else will be a huge bonus.

The maths:

- Our odds for promotion (either automatic or via play-offs) are 2/1 which means we have a 1 in 3 or 33% chance of promotion irrespective of how we go up.
- If we're in the play-offs, and if all 4 play-off teams have an equal chance, we have a 1 in 4 or 25% chance of promotion via the play-offs.
- Our chance of automatic promotion this Saturday is therefore 33% - 25% = 8% (ie about 1 in 12).
- Given that we'll finish 4th or 5th, have home advantage for the first leg of the play-offs, are in reasonable form, our chances of promotion via the play-offs are probably better than 1 in 4 meaning that promotion on Saturday is an even longer shot than 1 in 12.

Where is the smiley that pulls its hair out?? :dim:

I hope this is a wind up... In case it is not:

1) The fact they are third in the league makes me think they can win. The fact they are 8/11 to win their game = overwhelming favourites.
2) Before us even having a sniff we have to check the scores and Torquay and Crawley both have to have not won their game. We then have to win our game. Alternatively, they both lose, we draw and go up on goal difference!
3) Not sure how you define the fact Crawley have choked...

We are third favourites to get promotion as per the odds stated in other posts. The bookies odds just don't lie.

You don't make Crawley favourites to win on Saturday?

We need to talk, but not before I pop to the bank.

That really makes no sense :)

The odds of Crawley winning are 8/11 according to your first post, that means the bookies think they will win. Which means they get promoted.

Just because we are even more likely to win the game doesnt mean Crawley are likely to lose !?!?

What the bookies are predicting its the likely even is we will all win, which means we come 5th.

If you ever open a bookies let me know as I will be a big customer :)

Dont get me wrong, I think the bookies have over estimated Crawleys chance of a win, but if you are looking at who is officially favourite, its not us.

Crawley need one result to go their way, Torquay need two, we need 3. When it comes to odds and chances that puts us 3rd favourite.

As you say the other two teams are not guaranteed wins and I agree we are more likely to win our game than they are, but when it comes down to odds you have to take in the amount of variables. Unfortunately we have more that need to happen than Crawley.
