Crazy thing is I feel that Swindon are the team to beat this Season , got a feeling they will have a good run in and be in the top 2 .

Obviously winning this league is nice but getting out of it is Important so I am sure we will be fine in that respect

FFS, why hasn't this thread been deleted/closed. Its some poxy kid who has just joined Twitter making up stuff. I can't even believe you lot are still discussing it a day later!

You just bumped it though .. oops, so did i :smiles:

Still think we should be looking for a centre back as cover for injuries, suspensions and giving Philips and/or Barker time to rest knocks and aches in games ........

So why have we gone completely OTT with getting lots of strikers?

Why is it OTT?

Liam Dickinson - Getting better with each game.
Elliot Benyon - Shown glimpses of quality. Will take time to settle.
Jack Sampson - Promising debut, but only on loan.
Neil Harris - Hit & miss unfortunately.
Anthony Flood - Short term deal. I'd expect his appearances to be quite limited, unless we have a crisis.
Blair Sturrock - Last choice striker now I feel and on a rolling deal.

------------------------------------------------------------
Barry Corr - Wont kick a ball in anger this season.

Harry Crawford - Injured, will leave in the summer.
Matt Paterson - Will leave in the summer.
Kyle Asante - Will leave in the summer.

.....but we have already got Moshni, Coughlan and Prosser as back up CB's, also that is where Kane started though I think he's stopped growing and needs to be a bit bigger for our Division imho.

Would we be looking at the loan market for CBs? When does the loan window shut - if at all?

Loan window shuts around the time of the old transfer deadline day. Third Thursday in March, I think.

Two too many fit strikers IMO.

Just to talk about more strikers, Michael Bakare at Chelmsford is getting lots of coverage. Apparently Cheltenham, Hereford and Macclesfield are after him. Anyone watched him play?

EDIT - he's signed for Macclesfield

We don't need more strikers! We've scored 50 goals this season - the most in the league (by 3), more than Celtic in the SPL, and (I think, if I recall correctly) more than most of the sides in the entire FL. Our highest goalscorer is Dicko with 9. We have no issues with goals, or goal scorers (though granted, I'd love to have another Freddie who could feasably top the scoring charts, who the hell wouldn't?) What we need is a decent CB or two and an LB. A backup GK would be nice too.

Could it be Kane ?

Paul Jewell has today said his three bids over the weekend is not both the Swindon duo and that one of his targets he has bid for is a teenager.

Could the teenager be Kane Ferdinand?

And without wishing to be accused of fishing, A few Ipswich supporting friends of mine tell me Kane's name has been mentioned along with that of Anthony Grant and both have been rumoured to be signing 3 year deals soon.

The third target, they tell me, is Paul Caddis.

This post won't probably go down too well but for the benefit of a discussion board I've posted it.

To be honest I'm expecting someone to move on before the window closes be that Grant or Kane. To be honest if we lose one or the other I won't be too bothered but both would be crazy as it would leave us light in central midfield.

I'd rather it be Kane than Grant to be honest.
Why?

Appearances (Sub) Minutes Goals Assists Yellow Cards Red Cards Average Rating
Grant 17 (8) 1601 0 0 8 1 6.20
Kane 25 (5) 2192 6 1 4 0 5.92

Seems to me like Kane has been a more useful player for us, even though he has had a big dip in form. The only benefit is that we'd probably get more for Kane than Grant.

EDIT - Argh I hate how you can't post with multiple spaces to keep tables formatted!

I'd be quite happy for Kane to go. We clearly need to offload one or two players after our little spree and Kane is one of the few who another club would pay money for. He's not in the team at the moment, he's been fairly ineffective for most of the season except for one little good run of form and as I've said before, I think playing in a higher division might suit him better. I don't think losing him would damage our promotion chances much. I see Timlin and Kalala as our first-choice central midfield at the moment and I'd put Grant ahead of Kane.
