Also I think he very much favours staying north so would need a move to EFL and a significant financial inducement to tempt him South

Yeah I think the northern factor is huge, doesn’t seem like the sort of signing we’d make all things considered so doesn’t seem like one who got away (unlike Pearce last summer).

I was under the impression that James Goldings current contract that he signed two years ago was up to the end of the 26/27 season.

The news article makes it sound as though he's signed a one year deal as his contract expiring?

Carlisle have probably paid silly money for Linney who at 28 has very little re-sale value. It’s risky, but could be a good signing if he does the business. FGR threw money around last summer though in the hopes of getting back to the league first time of asking and the gamble didn’t pay off. Don’t mind them at all as a club, but still hope Carlisle get battered everywhere they go next season purely because of Mark Hughes’ arrogance in his cup final comments.

Don't a lot of the contracts expire at the end of June or is it end of May for the National League?
